I am 33 weeks and had a growth scan yesterday and they said that DC2 was already weighing 5lbs 4ozs. Has anyone else ever been told this and then not given birth to a small elephant?
Need my mind putting at rest!!

Don't worry!
I had the opposite, was told DS2 was average and he, umm, wasn't. My friend was told her babies were tiny and they were all good weights.
There is still some time to go, try not to worry.

hi i wouldnt take much notice to be honest. i think babies (like their mummies) can have weight gains at different stages of pregnancy. a friend was getting scanned every 2 weeks to keep an eye on her lo growth as she was ment to be tiny she turned out a very healthy 7.7.
my ds had a bigger than average head and im very tiny, this resulted in emcs. i am due again in a week and have opted for vbac delivery (fingers crossed). anyway, i asked for a late growth scan so if i have another big baby i can opt for elcs. mw and hospital have refused as they arnt accurate enough.

I was told for 8 weeks that mine was underweight and it was a worry. 2 scans- including one a week before birth

He weighed 11 lbs

Yes 11

ilovefirelighters · 21/10/2010 09:29

simbacat were you told for 8 week period? or at 8 weeks pregnant? at 8 weeks is very early they couldnt even see my pregnancy until 7 weeks (had early scans due to suspected ectopic). 11lbs wow you are 1 hell of a woman. ultimately these babies will grow to whatever weight and they ARE coming out.

Try not to worry for a start scans can be wildly inaccurate and also giving birth to an "elephant" is often not too bad. Both my dc were big on scan and in reality! The first was 9lb15, second 10lb7, both normal deliveries, in fact dc2 arrived in 2.5hrs.

I am currently expecting dc3, had a scan at 35 weeks and was told that the estimated weight was 7lb 10 so we shall have to wait and see, due in 2 weeks.

Told from 34 weeks onwards-he was born at 42 weeks.

Scanned at 34, 39 and 41- each time told an underweight baby.

Simbacat · 21/10/2010 10:55

I was also told that my daughter was about 6lbs. She was born 2 days later at 8.13

I on the otherhand did sneeky scans on my EDD with both of mine and was spot on give or take the odd oz...At my department we often check birthweights of serialy scanned v. large or v.small babies against our estimations and on the whole are accurate again give or take...
Try not to worry Bradyboo, that's not too huge, about 8lb 7ish at 40w?????? and as others have said little one may slow down from here on in. Xx

I was told at first ds was going to be over sized. Then at wk 38, they decided he was going to be under sized. He came about just about average, 7lb 11oz!

lilmamma · 22/10/2010 19:25

i was told no3,would be 10lb,she was 8lb 5oz. :)
