how long does it take for period to return after baby?

I had my baby about 4 months ago and breast fed for 6 weeks. when should my periods return, i would have had a regular cycle prior to the pregnancy and this is my first baby. Any information/experience gratefully received.

Mine started about 2/3 weeks after I stopped bf.

Have you done a pregnancy test just in case?

I think it varies alot... DD was exclusively bf for 6months, and I got my period a month or so after that.

I BF exclusively...and always (have had 3 dc, am pregnant with number 4) have my first period exactly 6 weeks after they are born, even though I bf exclusively for at least 3 months, one I EBF until 6 months...and had 4 periods by the time I weaned to FF. Apparently that's quite uncommon though, to have regular periods while you're exclusively bf. Normal for me though!

I have done at least 4 pregnancy tests I am not panicked about getting pregnant again if we were to be blessed with another baby, however how would I work out due dates etc then???

I stopped BF-ing 3 months ago (when DS was 7 mo) and still haven't had a period. Definitely not pregnant either. I'm afraid this is one of those things where there are no rules again. Although I am planning on going to see docs about mine soon as it is getting rather frustrating!! I have PCSO though and had rather irregular periods before so that might explain it.

both times mine returned exactly 9 months after the babies were born, the first time I was back at work and only bfing twice a day, and this time I'm still at home and bfing up to 6 times a day and still my periods returned after 9 months!

8 months. fully BFing for 6.5-7 months.

A year each time, bfed DS for 16 months and DD for 20 but she also had some FF. I was also pretty regular before having the babies and didn't expect them to disappear for that long so found it a bit odd.

6 weeks exactly.
