Bad Cramp in stomach muscles and back

I walked to the shops yesterday and by halfway there, I was in massive pain in my stomach muscles and all round my back. I stopped and rested for a bit and it eased off, but it really scared me - is this normal?

It was definitely pain in the stomach wall, not uterine pain, but it felt like everything from just below the boobs to the bottom of my arse was seizing up.

Am I just not doing enough exercise to strengthen my back?

It was probably just Braxton Hicks but check with your MW.
What you described is exactly what I felt when I walked even a short distance. My whole abdomen just went tight and I felt uncomfortable and a bit breathless. I used to keep having to stop and rest. It was scary but MW said perfectly normal and nature's way of saying go slowly in order to leave some oxygen for the baby!

Thanks Greenwing :) I'm seeing the midwife for my regular checkup today, so I'll talk to her about it. I was also getting paranoid because she's not kicking at her regular times (6am and 8-9pm) but now she's just started giving me a proper booting, which makes me feel better.

Checked with the MW - it was Braxton Hicks. She also asked me if I'd been walking very fast.

Told my DH and he wanted to know if Braxton Hicks were anything to do with Cern and Particle Colliders... (He wishes, the big nerd!)
