20 week scan - fat baby!

Have had 20 week scan and baby is measuring 50th centile for everything except abdomen which is 97th!

The sonographer said it's just a fat baby. Of course, I am now worried it might be something more sinister.

Has anyone else had this?

Sounds like bollocks to me. How can they tell the size by the percentiles at this stage?

Babies don't start laying down their fat until a couple of weeks after this anyway.

Yes mine was same, when i asked my midwife about it at my next appointment she laughed and said baby just likes his food, and not to worry as anything wrong would have showed up on scan.

My dc3 was the same, and was born with a chubby tummy, mw commented on the thickness of the umbilical cord and said he had been fed well for the last 9 months!! Grin, he slimmed down greatly very quickly and is an adorable 2 year old now.

So nothing to worry about although at the time I was told to check for GD. But I did not have it and all was well.

A "fat" baby? Talk about labelling a child early. And babies have little to no fat that early.

Thanks folks. I did ask if it could be fluid or something but she said it was definitely fat, but not the "distinctive band of fat around the stomach" you get with gestational diabetes.

Could be bollocks though!

A fat baby would be nice, DS was skinny and I was so worried about getting enough food into him it would be a nice change.

My DD was born on the 91st centile for weight and 50th for length in case that helps at all... She was on the 75th for both at a year so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

If there was a concern the Sonographer would have stated it, don't worry!
'KenDoddsetc...C'mon! Labelling?! Really??!!
