I have already been told that I am having twin girl! what I can't understand is how did the consultant know so early, I then read something about bpm, if its over 150 they say its definitely a girl under 150 its a boy. I would love to hear from you with your baby's bpm and also whether you know whether its a baby boy ir girl!

Mine was 150 exactly, guess I'm having a hermaphrodite then!

I don't think there is any truth in that.

Mine went from 110 to 170 at various points in my pregnancy. He's a boy if thats any help...

I'm having a little boy and his heartrate is generally around 140bpm - however, first time we heard it it was over 150 (and I had been convinced he was a girl) Smile

There's no truth in it. They've studied it to check and the only time heartrate is an indicator is when you're actually in labour!

All throughout my pregnancy and labour my baby's heart rate was low (can't recall the bpm as it's 13 years ago!)

Four midwives came on and off shift throughout my labour and all of them were adamant I was having a boy - they were all wrong!

BessieBoots · 18/10/2010 11:58

Both mine were above 150, andd they are both boys :)

And anyway, doesn't it vary a lot? I had a trace done at the weekend and our LO's heartbeat measured around 145 (it's a girl) mostly, but went from 120 to 165. And that was considered fine/good.

EMS23 · 18/10/2010 12:48

My midwife stands by that method, although she wouldn't have mentioned it if I hadn't brought it up. She reckons she's never been wrong.
At 16 weeks my girls heartbeat was 142, which my midwife said made it a girl (she goes by over 140 = girl). She was right about me but the scientific evidence doesn't back it up generally.
It remains at about 140bpm (am 35 weeks now) at every checkup.

To be fair, I just saw it as a bit of fun to test an old wives tale but I wouldn't have taken it as 100% accurate.
Have since had an amnio so I know it is definitely a girl.

My baby's heartrate has always been between 150-160 bpm and he's a boy. Though the theory seemed to hold true in my other pregnancies, the 2 girls were 150 and above and DS was usually around 130-140.

RoxieP · 20/10/2010 15:09

Mine is always 145 and it's a girl!

NoahAndTheWhale · 20/10/2010 15:12

With DS, heartrate was consistently high (above 160 I think)

With DD it was always low (under 140)

So I don't believe the old wives' tale Grin
