Is it just me or is pregnancy making anyone else ultra hairy (and I don't mean on your head)

Oh my. My leg hair is so thick and long, my pubes halfway down my thighs, a line of hair down my belly, underarms need doing very few days and don't even talk to me about the lady moustache I have going on. I thought hair growth was meant to slow in pregnancy but it's doing the opposite for me.

that's hormones for you... I have more hair on my legs to stomach. It is very unpleasant. I even keep finding the occasional one (2 up to now - both promptly plucked) on my boobs. I looked it up though and this is normal and will all stop after the baby is born. Amazingly I currently do my underarms every morning. I keep looking and thinking "I'm sure I did them yesterday how can it grow so fast!!"

booooooooooyhoo · 18/10/2010 00:41

yes, my face got hairy. i have dark hair and fair skin and the fair hair at the sides of my face seemed to get darker.

janedoe25 · 18/10/2010 07:38

Me toom im like a yeti! just boticed hair sprouting from my neck. I also have a hairy bump!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 18/10/2010 08:46

another very hairy bump here, I'm just hoping it'll keep me warm through the winter months Grin

LoubyLoubyLouLa · 18/10/2010 09:09

I'm blond and usually not hairy, and didn't see an increase in my last pregnancy, but my gawd am I hairy now! I have been waxed and at least it keeps everything at bay for a few weeks!

I am now 36 weeks and the only consolation is I now have thick swishy glossy hair on my head for the first time in my life! (that I know will be falling out really soon :( )

BagofHolly · 18/10/2010 09:50

Yep, hairy shorts here, a la Rapunzel!

japhrimel · 18/10/2010 10:17

Yeah it's normal. It's not hair growth that slows but the rate at which hairs fall out, so everything gets thicker & longer.

yellowflowers · 18/10/2010 10:27

Pleased it is not just m but honestly, I am looking like a little bear.

my bump is really hairy too - turned into a gooseberry overnight Grin

lucielooo · 18/10/2010 10:35

Yep all body hair seems thicker/longer/darker.. I even seem to have hairs on the top of my feet that weren't there before!

An old wives tale says that if you're very hairy then it's a boy.. Does anyone know what they're having that can say whether this is true for them? I know they're rubbish but am fascinated by old wives tales!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 18/10/2010 10:45

I'm having a boy so it's true in my case but I've heard of other women that are hairy and pg with dds. Sorry!

DancingCat · 18/10/2010 10:48

I'm having a little boy

Funny thing is my DH seems to be getting hairier too Grin

lucielooo · 18/10/2010 10:51

Hmm, interesting! I'm sure I'm having a boy and it's mainly because of the hairiness but am happy to be proved wrong!!

plasticspoon · 18/10/2010 12:21

Another yeti expecting a boy here...

Just so glad I can no longer see below my belly button!

TooImmature2BMum · 18/10/2010 12:54

Oooh. Had to wax bikini line and trim the rest massively about 5 weeks ago - needs doing again but haven't bothered yet. I waxed tummy too because had heaps of hair, and now there are stunted looking hairs and some seem to be ingrowing. Nice! Good reminder - must do something about tummy tonight because have scan tomorrow and will feel ashamed. I only waxed the first time because the midwife commented on it and told me not to worry Blush!

yellowflowers · 18/10/2010 12:58

how mean of midwife - best for her to have said nothing!!!

I shaved my belly ones yesterday when shaving legs and bikini line - dh laughed because he says now I'll have a stubbly belly.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 18/10/2010 13:03

Ouch at ingrowing belly hairs, you have my sympathy! I've decided that I'm going to just let them grow, it's almost scientific experiment now to see how long they'll get Grin

Can no longer see my bikini line properly so just shaving on auto pilot, underarms and legs not too bad as I epilate and seems to do the job. Tried epilating my bikini area and, Shock, never trying that again!!!!

Isn't pregnancy just so glamourous? I've been huffing and puffing painting my toe nails this morning.

Swazzee · 18/10/2010 13:18

Painting your toenails?! I can't even put socks on by myself!

I've also got a hairy bump, a bikini line I haven't seen for months which feels more hairy, and hairy legs which I can't be bothered to shave but really must just in case I go into labour early.

Not sure about the old wives tale, but I'm pregnant with two boys, so maybe I'm twice as hairy as the rest of you!

emmab5 · 18/10/2010 15:10

So so hairy! Having to shave armpits and legs daily, eyebrows needing to be waxed once a week and i've got a very hairy bump Blush

DP still telling me I look gorgeous though even though he's now having to keep my bikini line trim :o

Oh having a boy by the way x

nameymcnamechange · 18/10/2010 15:12

All you hairy ones will be carrying boys, mark my words.

kellestar · 18/10/2010 15:23

emmab5 my DH has also taken over my shaving routine. I go swimming to help with SPD and draw the line at going completely au natural. I did cancel the other day as I could only stretch to shave one leg and not the other. They get beastly so quickly, and my hairy belly. It's terrible.

Went to my 32 week scan and LO already has a huge mop of hair.

And my feet are so scaly it's yucky, I don't think I could pay for a pedicure and not go beet red with embarrasment.

sh77 · 18/10/2010 15:27

Ha ha. I have hair growing on my belly. Had this in first preg and had a girl.

I have sprouted a baby fringe but seem to be shedding lots of hair from my head....

Lady tache was pretty bad in early preg but seems to have calmed down. Maybe my baby has changed sex....
