Never got blood test results back - 5 weeks now

I had a blood test at 15 weeks exactly, and I'm now 20+3 and I've never got the results back. They were for the first set of abnormality tests. I don't know if the no-show is cause for concern or not! Surely the midwife hasn't just lost them? She was really dippy - at appointment, said because I was 14+6, the lab wouldn't take my blood sample, so asked me to go back the next morning when I would be 15 weeks, and then when I got to the health centre she was nowhere to be seen and her colleagues couldn't get hold of her for ages. She eventually showed up and took my blood, but she had said come at 8.30 because she started work at 8.45, and then she didn't arrive until 8.55 and her colleague was totally stressing (as was I, because she was making both me and DH late for work). Anyway, my next scan is on Tuesday and for some reason, the fact that the blood test results haven't appeared is making me nervous about the scan - what if they see something wrong? I would call and chase them, but the midwives are really hard to get in touch with - you just get an answering machine and usually no one calls you back until the next day at the earliest.

If you are worrying about it I think it is worth phoning up and checking the results. Hopefully if they were abnormal they would have made the effort to get in touch with you to inform you.
If the community midwives are hard to get hold of you could try phoning the hospital antenatal clinic and explaining the problem to someone there - it shouldnt be difficult for them to look your results up on the computer.

When I had those blood tests the MW told me they only write to you if there is a problem. If you don't hear within 10 days then you're in the clear. Hopefully it's the same in your area rather than a mistake by the MW.

are these the results for the triple (quadruple) test? in my area you will be only informed if they detect a problem... if results come back as low risk, you won't be informed (only the surgery where I also have my MW appointments).

what tiger says - or you could try phoning your GP, I would have thought they would have your results on their system too?

japhrimel · 17/10/2010 21:15

Call your GP or your hospital day assessment unit if you have one. My GP surgery won't give out actual results over the phone - just okay or not okay - but the DAU MWs can get actual results.

That's great, thanks! hopefully she did say I would only be contacted if there was something wrong and I just wasn't listening/didn't comprehend.

I rang for mine this morning, four weeks after I had the test. Turns out they don't tell you unless there's a problem but it would have been nice to know that at the time!

If you're at all worried just call and ask for them. I feel better now I have.
