Just wondering what u guys think, i'm due with no 1 on the 3rd march (so am being a bit advance here but the boss is after finding a replacement)

anyhow I have 5 dyas holiday this year and will be entitled to 8.5 days from next year, i'm going to propose to my boss that I actually go off on maternity leave on the 10th feb and use from the 10th feb till the 28th feb (13 days) as my holiday days then start apid maternity leave from the 1st march until the 31st august.

i'll only get the SMP u see so I want to try and work for as long as possible as we will definatly need the money.

what do u guys think? is it feisable or am I leavin it a bit late.

(should point out hospital scan is 3/3 but my LMP is 11/3 - so whta do u think?)

Sounds reasonable to me. MY company let me take my holiday entitlement immediatley before my matternity leave. Also I know people who worked right up to the day before their due date.

Munz - It's entirely up to how you feel! Some women feel laiden and too uncomfortable at 34 wks (ME!!) others work until their waters break .

It is nice to have a good few weeks to pamper yourself and nest build before the baby comes though!

I left work at 35 wks both times. Both dd and ds were born at 39wks. So I had 4 wks to prep. And I loved EVERY minute of it!!

well yes I think is the boss aggrees it then i'll do that have 2 weeks holiday first but start 'paid' leave whilst on the holiday iycwim.

This is perfectly resonable to me - as I am doing the same thing

What do you mean about leaving it late?? Late to organise or late to finish work. In both cases I'd say no. I've only just confirmed my maternity leave and I finish work on 11th November so I'd say your super organised for doing it now. Leaving work late - I went to work in labour with dd and with this one I am finishing 3 weeks before my due date.

You can always change your dates nearer the time if you are feeling too tired.

Btw, did you speak to dh over the weekend and get your "other problems" sorted - was speaking to you on Friday!!!

Iklboo · 12/09/2005 13:26

I'm taking the full 3 weeks I've got left of this year's annual leave before I start ML so I can have as long as I can off with the baby afterwards. I think it's fine.

sh - yes we're gettin there thanks, he's agreed pretty much to go with what I want- ie cashh book etc.. I think for the most part I worry and stress so much. I think we'll wait for our 'lady' to come back instead of the temp we have standin in for her whilst she's on holiday. as the temp was trying to increase our payments not reduce them - and didn't seem to know what was ging on - which of course made me 10 times worse. the other lady's back next monday.

as for work - I ment am I leaving it late to start maternity leave? i'll be about 38 weeks by then according to the scan. the boss is after date's as I'll need to train my replacement (and also I don't want stress for our month end at the end of march!)

glad to hear your feeling more sorted now

Like others have said - it's really down to how you feel as to when you finish work. I was fine working right up until my labour with No 1 but don't think I want to do it this time round. Plus being due at Xmas I want some time off to do shopping

Good luck!!!

george32 · 12/09/2005 13:32

I'm doing something similar too Munzie. They actually suggested it to me so they must be pretty used to it.

munz · 12/09/2005 13:34

oh yes - althou don't envy u with the whole xmas shopping 9 months PG! lol. just talking to the HR lady now about it (when she's off the phone), can't see her havin a problem with it, will prob tell the boss after I know the 20 week scan's OK.

thanks for ur help on friday, I feel a bit more in control and calmer today - def don't like the new woman thou. we've also done a budget for when I finish mat leave so it will mean cutting back on a few bits but hopefully we should be just as ok as now - as long as we stop the o/d and bank charges (which hopefully we will do this month) as DH is away for 3 weeks so with any luck we should be OK from now - she said!
