I'm going to ask my mw about this on monday but just wondered if anyone else had this happen... My WBC in april measured 8.22. The normal range is 4-11. I noticed yesterday that my august result was 13.46. Seems like a big increase. I'm not aware of having infection at the time. Is it common to rise in pregnancy? Anyway i intend to speak to mw and ask if it can be retested to ease my mind.

I had blood tests done when I was in hospital the other week. My WBC was measuring 16.8 but they never said anything about it so I assume that it's fine. I think your white blood cell count does increase in pregnany.

An elevation in the white blood cell (WBC) count is actually a normal and common occurrence during pregnancy. The WBC peaks in the third trimester in the 12-18,000 range. There is another peak during labor, sometimes up to the 25,000 range. Despite the normal increase in WBC count, there are other causes of elevated WBC counts which a physician can better assess.

Thanks marrow and lilly. I know i'm being paranoid and they'd have said if they thought there was a problem. I'm finding it all quite fascinating too, i've learnt a lot in pregnancy about how truly amazing the body is and what its capable of.
