Can I take anything at all to hep my shocking insomnia? I am 37 and a bit weeks and barely seeping at all. I am still working a bit and studying and looking after DS and I really can't go on with 3 hrs sleep!

Talk to your GP. My GP gave me Piriton to help me sleep through the itching of possible OC.

Maybe Valerian Root could help? Check with a homeopath, though...

Check with your MW and/or a pharmacist before taking any herbal preparations. Homeopathic preparations aren't the same as herbal and actually contain no active ingredients, so a homeopath won't know anything about herbal preparations like Valerian for sleep.

Giddyup, I really feel for you.

I'm 38 weeks and finished up at work earlier than expected last week (was intending to work up to 38.5 weeks) as I could not keep going with such little sleep.

Is your sleeplessness being caused by the frequent loo trips or can you just not get to sleep / stay asleep?

I'm having between 7-11 toilet trips a night at the moment as the baby loves to cuddle my bladder it seems, but even when being woken every 40 mins, I have long hours of not being able to sleep, despite not having a particularly active mind, any worries etc.

My midwife tells me this is hormonal.

My husband had to comfort me through a few hours of tears and frustration last night as it's very difficult to keep functioning with only 3-4 broken a=hours a night for months, more so for you if you're still at work.

Would you be able to finish up a little early to give you some time to relax in the day, even if there is no sleeping?

geurnseygirl I really feel for you! 40 mins sleep at a time is a form of torture-at least your newborn will feel like a relaxing new chapter after what you are going through...

I can get to sleep when I go to bed (not as early as I would like) but its after trips to the loo I can't get back to sleep. I Was awake 2am-6ish this morning, I finally passed out and DS was up for school.

I have decided to stop working now and study at home for an hour a day and just flump around the rest of the time while DS is at school. DP should be around a bit more from this week too; he has been away 6 a nights a week for what feels like months.

Good luck my dear, the end is in sight!
Also thanks to everyone else for their advice, my GP couldn't give me anything and I will ask my midwife about herbal options tomorrow.
