Abdominal cramps, please advice!!!

I've woke up at about 4am this morning doubled over finding myself screaming and crying. I have severe cramping right at the top of my uterus that radiates all the way down my abdomin. No bleeding or discharge of any kind. Its eased off a bit since then but its still there.

I'm not constipated or have trapped wind.

I don't know if it is my womb or my stomach. Baby is moving.

It HURTS!!!

I've convinced myself its a stomach ache.

And I know this is going to sound really stupid, but I really don't want to go to the hospital, its my birthday tomorrow and I don't want to be kept in.

How do you know when its your stomach when you're pregnant. I'm 30+4 btw.

Pie ... sorry you are feeling crook ... I don't know what it could be ... presumably not labour or anything????? I guess you would know if it was that.
Have you phoned your midwife for advice?
Is it still hurting now?

Cor Pie, aren't you having a hard time with this pregnancy? I can't wait for you to give birth, so I can stop worrying about you I think you should phone the midwife too and see what she says. Are you sure it's not wind or constipation? Both can be painful. What about drinking lots of water? Does changing position help? I hope the midwife is reassuring and you manage your planned day out. Happy Birthday for tomorrow.

Just got home....not in labour thank god. But they don't know why I'm cramping so much. Had blood tests etc, there was protein in my urine. Looks like I will have to go back on Thursday for more scans etc. Pain is where my placenta is. Baby looks ok. Wanted to keep me around but I said no way as its my birthday tomorrow. Zoo is out, have to rest.

Brain is fried.

Pie - I'm so sorry. Glad to hear the baby is ok but how worrying! Good luck with everything. Re: Protein in your urine.... I've had that (as you'll probably know ) however blood tests then show more clearly whether or not you're pre-eclampsic etc. So what did the bloods say? Also was it a trace, positive, 2+? I'm having to monitor myself morning and afternoon and I often find a trace in the mornings at the moment when I've not drank enough water. Today was a full + but upon discussing with my mw she said drink loads (of water) give it a couple of hours and then try again and lo and behold back to negative. I think the heat is playing havoc with my system and possibly with yours as well. Also perfectly possibly its nothing to do with it - but just in case - HTH

Oh pie, I'm really sorry to hear that. Terrible timing with your lovely zoo trip that was organised ages ago, and your birthday, and about the last thing you need on top of everything else. Take it very very easy, and look after yourself. Spend the day on the sofa eating cake gently!
Are you sure you shouldn't go in tomorrow for scans if they want you to? Maybe you can just postpone your birthday for a week - do it all next wednesday instead? I know it is a bugger etc etc but you need to be really careful and wouldn't it be better to get yourself diagnosed and sorted and your stress levels down asap? You must be very worried waiting until Thurs, I know I would be. Anyway, keep us posted, we are all thinking about you... xx

Thanks for the thoughts.

PPH, the consultant wanted to see if the cramping resolves by itself, so she thought 48 hours would do it. She ran some tests to rule out appendix stuff and wanted some others to come back when I next see them. They will look at my ovaries apparently.

Wills, I had to drink bucket load os water to give then a sample...I think it was +1. BP was 130/80, its usually 108/70 so only a little up.

Still it was nice and air conditioned in there and we had a TV, shame there was no room service

Sorry to hear of your terrible time pie. Did the pain you had radiate through to your back at all? Sometimes you can have pain from your gallbladder when you are pregnant. Hope they get to the root of it soon.

How did today go?

Report

Hi, thanks for the birthday wishes all and for asking about today Wills.

Very quiet non eventful day. Cramping has lessened considerably, so the consultant thought that I may not have to come in at all tomorrow, but they will make a decision when I call back tomorrow. But I'm glad I didn't spend my birthday in hospital.

What does an irritable uterus feel like, maybe its something like that? Mears, I thought about the gallbladder too, they took alot of blood, can something like that show up there?

Yes - your liver function tests would be wonky. Glad to hear things seem a bit more settled.

Sorry Pie for some reason I got confused and thought today was your birthday. Bit late but many happy returns and at least it wasn't in hospital - ugh in this weather. Wont they call you in at least to review?
