diarrhea at 19 weeks

I am 19 weeks pregnant and have just developed quite bad diarrhea. I had this in the early stages of pregnancy but nothing since. I have no sickness with it. I had my scan a couple of days ago and mentioned this to the midwife who said it was quite normal, not to worry, but I have had it for three days now.

Has anyone else had anything similar? How long can it last?

Thank you :)

Are you getting headaches, feeling feverish or dizzy?

If you are or you are not showing signs of improving you need to be seen by the your GP or the midwife. I had to be admitted and rehydrated when I got bad diarrhea at a similar point in pregnancy and I was very ill indeed and didn't even realise.

A dicky tummy for a day is fine. More than that should be checked. Keep drinking a lot.

I had diarrhea every morning from very early pregnancy until I was more than 30 weeks (I woke up with a bad stomach shortly followed by bowel movement at 5:00am every morning) and it hasn't done me any harm as far as I can tell. (I'm 36 weeks at the moment). As long as you make sure you are getting plenty of fluids, I wouldn't worry too much. Although it was annoying and a bit unpleasant, it was better in a way than the constipation I had in my other pregnancies! :) Hope you are feeling better soon.

I am nearly 20 weeks and have had diarrhoea at least 4 times (ie, lasting for more than a day and sometimes making me stay off work) already since got pregnant. Think may have Crohn's disease (Dad has it, so is highly possible) but scared of tests. So far, baby has been fine. Mine's never lasted as long as yours, though. Mind you, people with super-bad morning sickness lose a lot of fluid too and it doesn't seem to affect the babies. Are you managing to drink a lot?

Yes, I am fine with holding down food and water, and the diarrhea doesn't come straight away after eating, maybe 2-4 hours after eating. I have had a slight fever with a headache though. I think I'll see how I am over the next couple of days and if it doesn't improve I'll see my doctor.

Thanks so much for you help!

If you have a slight fever with a headache you do need to get checked out. Sorry. I spent three days being rehydrated in hospital and was really lucky to have sought help when I did. Really. Don't take chances if you think you might be getting worse.
