Hi,

I'm writting this for my sister who is nearly 36 week's pregnant, this is her 2nd baby.

She has GBS (group b strep) and didnt know untill she had her son 5 years ago, the poor little fella was very ill and it was very scarey, thankfully he is now fit and well.

The problem is with her son (1st delivery) she had thought her waters may have been slightly leaking, so went to midwife numerous times, they did they usual tests and said her waters hadn't gone.

Thankfuly she took castor oil as she was over due and that brought the labour on where tey found in fact her waters had been leaking, and if he hasnt literaaly been forced out he wouldnt be here today.

Now she is 36 weeks and having the same worrying leak, we have been to the hospital 3 times, where they have checked baby over, done an examination etc, and still after everything they are saying nope no waters are leaking, she had a urine sample today and Leukocytes was found, but when tested yesterday there wasn't.

She has again been told to go home and they will arrange for a scan .. it's worrying as if it is her waters the baby is very high risk of infection because of GBS.

Anyone with any advice please,we are all worried and dont know whether to trust the doctors and midwifes again.

go for a second opinion, the worst thing i think is if you leave something when you have a hunch.

espically if your sister is worried.

call the labour ward.

hope everything goes ok

I agree with loveydovey, think you should definitely go for a second opinion. It is just not worth the doctors being wrong. I recently had a big operation and a big mistake was made with it - doctors are good, they do know their stuff, but they are also only human and do make mistakes.

If you don't feel 100% convinced go with your gut feeling.

Goodluck with it all :)

Also amniosense but it would mean waiting for postage...

Has she actually been tested for GBS this time round? GBS in a previous pregnancy doesn't mean much at all - she may now not have it at all.

Two suggestions that might help your friend:

Do a google search on amniosense pads - they detect amniotic fluid leakage.

Also, she could get a private strep b test from The Doctor's Lab. They are more sensitive than NHS ones. Results within 48 hours.

Hello,

thank you all.

She has unfortunetly been tested positive again for GBS .

We have been been back up the hospital she had a scan waters look fine, seen another midwife done then usual blood pressure and check babies heart beat all good.

Then we saw another doctor who was reluctant to do another internal as she has had 2 already, so she called a consultant who said he is happy for her to go home as he dont thinkn her waters are leaking.

everything points toward no water leaking and baby well, but again they said this last time, but they didnt know about GBS then and also didnt do a scan.

So really a wait and see i giess and pray it isnt her waters.

Don't let her take castor oil again. It really isn't good for the baby.

IME if you are worried and have history you really have to push to be checked. I had to ask a midwife if she would put it in writing that my baby was fine as she was sending me home. She refused so I refused to go and was then scanned weekly.

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 14/10/2010 18:38

I lost waters with DD1 and was told I wasnt and it wasnt until I had a scan later on they found out. I didnt use waters with DD2 though. A scan will show the level of waters clearly. Could be thats shes losing but replenishhing too though.

Oh no she would never use castor oil, also it's too early just yet she is 36 week's.

She is being induced on 3rd nov so she wont be trying to get little one out at all
