Hi all,

Im 37+4, this is my 3rd baby, after having 2 previous C Sections(1 EMCS, 1 ELCS)both due to pre-eclampsia, im holding out this time for a VBAC.

For the last week or so I have been terribly uncomfortable around my hip area, and down my right leg. I have not experienced this before in my previous pregnancies, during the night is worse. Its a weird sensation to describe, its a bit like the joint between my leg and hip is out of place and needs to click back in, sometimes there is a clicking noise, does anyone know if this is something normal? this pregnancy has been very different to my other so I have learned lots of new pregnancy symptoms.

Sounds like the sort of thing I've been getting, though have had it with both pregnancies. As your pelvis spreads you can easily get sore hips - I have occasional nerve pain as well which often kicks in half way through taking a step and is incredibly painful but brief.

it's "normal", a large % of women get this to some degree, and at least it's come on fairly late (I tend to start getting it around 16 or 17 weeks.

It feels like the joint is slipping out because it is! If you have pain or numbness down your leg to the knee, that sounds like sciatica (from a nerve in your spine), as well as the hip/pelvis problem.

Try a big pillow between your legs (feet to thigh) when sleeping. Also, if you drive, a round bolster cushion (firm, 2ft long, about 6inch diameter) under your knees at the front of the seat (ie your bottom is still sitting on the car seat)can really help if you are getting hip pain when moving from peddle to peddle. This position seems to stop the leg bone slipping forward in the hip joint while pressing the break/accelerator.
