Hi there

I was wondering if it was ok to use a vibrator when pregnant? Genuine question or else I would not have changed my user name.

TIA

Nothing embarassing about this !!

As I understand it, just like intercourse there is no reason why you shouldn't use a vibrator in pregnancy, tho' YOU MUST make sure it is clean, so you don't introduce any infections up there.

Also, if you're getting on thru the pg (6-7 mths onwards) I suggest you ask your partner (if he's playing too) to be a little gentle, no hard stabs towards the cervix pls. Other than that, I wouldn't think it would cause any probs

I read about a woman who used her v for pain relief during labour - externally.

I've got a pile of baby/pregnancy magazines somewhere and one has an article about this and it says that they shouldn't be used for some reason. Of course I can't actually find this article now but I definatley remember reading it.

Sorry to disappoint!

I suppose it might depend on where you used it - internally or externally. I cannot for the life of me imagine a single contraindication for using it externally! And orgasms are not bad for babies and tone everything up. Mind you, in all the years I worked at Cosmo, this was one vibrator question that never came up!

I'm sure there was a thread on this a while ago. General consensus seemed to be externally used it's ok but not internally, as it's not like "human" sex (unless your partner's willy vibrates and hums!!)

Also, more seriously, it would also depend on at what stage your pg is at. If you haven't had a any scans yet you might be putting yourself in danger. I found out at 32 weeks that I had placenta praevia and ALL sex and internal exams were banned for fear of causing the uterus to contract which might have started me bleeding. I'd keep it external if I were you.
