Low Lying Placenta at 28 weeks (only just diagnosed)

Hi

I had my 20 weeks scan and was told the placenta was high. I then paid for additional scans at 24 and 28 weeks. At the 28 week scan they have decided that the placenta is low posterior 2.4cm away from os.

Do I need to be worried. I know a lot of peple here say they had low lying at 20 weeks and it moved, but mine is low lying at 228 weeks and now I am worried. Sonigrapher said she would scan again at 32 weeks. Should I be mentioning this to midwife and what is my likely outcome. Had CS previous for breech twins.

I had this with DS 2 - only found out after a bleed at around 30 weeks. I think the placenta was 1.6 cm from the os, so I had fortnightly scans up until 3 weeks before he was due, at which point I was told I would definitely need a CS.
I did have restrictions imposed - Not going further than 15 mins drive from the hospital and no more sex (that was the most upsetting, actually!). You definitely need to talk to your midwife so that she can put your mind at rest and discuss possible outcomes with you.

Thanks for your reply. I am a bit peeved that it wasnt picked up earlier really. If I hadnt had the extra scans we wouldnt have known. Not sure if 2.4 is a good size away or not that the problem. (an we live more than 15 mns from the hospital !!)

Well, one of the reasons I kept being scanned was that the powers that be said that there was a possibility that the placenta may well grow far away enough from the fire escape that I could have a normal(!) delivery, so that certainly doesn't rule you out. They'll probably tell you to be prepared for the possibility of a CS, though. I remember asking the same question, as I was annoyed that it hadn't been spotted earlier - their response was that they can't really be sure until baby gets bigger.

I had this uncovered at my 20 week and scan and was booked in for another at 32/34 (can't remmeber), Ihave a private 4d scan the week beofre and it had sorted its self out.

Your midwife should already know from your notes, an suprised if she hasnt discussed it with you.

No - thats what I mean - It wasnt seen at the 20 week scan, nor at a 24 weeks scan. They have only just noticed its low, so the midwife doesnt know about it, only my private sonographer.
