Hello all,
well as the title says I am convinced AF is on its way.
I did a digital test on friday and it said 1-2 weeks.
Then yesterday I started getting the oooh AF is on its way feeling in my stomach. Last night I had brown discharge when I wiped. No bright red blood, but after the 5th visit to the loo there was a single teeny red trail and the discharge was a sort of weird orangey/brown in the early hours of this morning !(2am)

Now this morning the discharge has gone ( although I will check again in a min ) but the AF feeling is still there.

I am utterly convinced its all gone wrong.

I havent been to my GP yet as its such early days. ANy one had this ??

I had my first MC at just before 4 weeks and it started in a similar way.

Having said that, cramps are common in early pregnancy and you can get either implanatation bleeds or breakthrough bleeding (when AF is due) and everything be fine.

This early, all you can really do is wait. If you go to the GP, they may do hcg blood tests 48-72 hours apart, but that's it and the situation may well make itself clearer in those 3 days anyway. Redoing a test(s) at home can offer some indication, but the digital ones aren't awfully accurate anyway, so I wouldn't use them.

Hi inbetweener, I got a tiny bit of brown discharge around when af was due, and had cramping also. Cracked on thinking af must be coming, and it never did! Now 5 weeks pg and still franic knickers checking!

Give it a bit longer and fingers crossed for you! X

I found out I was pregnant on a Wednesday. On the Thursday I started getting brown discharge (which is how AF always starts for me). The discharge carried on and off for a week with some mild cramping and sharp ovary pain. Admittedly I never had any red blood at all but def a fair bit of brown gunk.

Anyway that's all 5 weeks ago now and I'm definitely still pregnant. I have a little guilty pleasure in continuing to do pregnancy tests (I stockpiled them before finding out I was PG) and the pregnant line comes up immediately - way before the test line! And the nausea, enlarged tender boobs and bone-tiredness are undeniable.

So if my experience is anything to go by there's every reason it's just the discharge it's fairly normal to get when pregnant at the time you would have had AF! Fingers crossed.

I'm in the same boat inbetweener. I tested positve on Friday, but I've been bleeding for 7 days before that. So 9 days now. The tests still say positive.

Will see GP tomorrow.

Hang in there...

inbetweener · 10/10/2010 16:20

I just wiped and had some red blood. Sad. I cant believe it.
I'm gonna hold on till tomorrow and If I'm not fully bleeding I will retest. If it's positive I will see my GP.
I cant believe it. Im so gutted. Much more then I ever thought I would.

It was only a little trail. Not full on...you know.....period blood. But it was blood.

Hi inbetweener, sorry this is happening to you. It's so scary isn't it? I had a mc this time last year at about 3-4 weeks, and now pregnant again. Supposed to be 9 weeks but had bleeding early on. Had early scan where a heartbeat was seen at 7 weeks, but I've started bleeding again today.

My advice would be to try to see someone at your local Early Pregnancy Unit if there's one at your hospital. Your GP won't really be able to do anything, and they can sometimes be a bit dismissive so early on. The EPU will be able to test your hcg levels, then you will probably have to go back a few days later to retest to see if the levels have increased.
Good luck.

I didn't have bleeding but I did have AF cramps for 4 months when I was pregnant with DS.

Good luck to everyone here!!

banana87 · 10/10/2010 19:39

I had this too from the time my period was due for 2 weeks. It just stopped this week, and I went for a scan and saw a little heartbeat. Now I know I am by no means out of the woods, but I did have brown discharge, brown spotting, red, and reddy-brown. A huge range but dr said it was implantation bleeding. Don't give up hope yet!

ShowOfHands · 10/10/2010 19:49

It's very difficult. Because bleeding in early pregnancy is common (40% of women) but so are chemical pregnancies (it has been estimated that up to 50% of all cycles can result in chemical pregnancies when trying). It's only early testing that shows us how common chemical pregnancies are. So you get an early line at 4 weeks pregnant, maybe even earlier but then af seems to turn up regardless, maybe a few days late. Years ago we'd never have known.

In my experience (I've had it go both ways), they won't do anything for you at this stage. They can't scan this early and our GP wouldn't do blood tests that early either without signs of ectopic. I was advised to take a 'wait and see' approach for a week or two first. Your GP may be more proactive than mine though.

I really hope it works out for you. It's such a worrying time.

Wobblewatcher · 10/10/2010 21:08

Good advice soh. I had a chem preg last month, reassuring to know that info though...

KatnKankles · 11/10/2010 00:18

I actually didn't think I was pregnant as I had a fair amount of red bleeding the day AF was due.

I didnt test until 3 weeks later and was shocked to get a strong BFP.

inbetweener · 11/10/2010 09:49

Hello all,
Thank you for your advice. I think I have had a chemical pg though now Sad.
I woke at about 5:30 to see to DD as she had wet the bed Sad and I had started to bleed. Went to the loo and it was dripping into the bowl so I guess thats quite a lot for breakthrough bleeding ! This morning I am still bleeding quite heavily and when I wiped there were...well..tiny clots I guess.

I was going to get another test on my way into work this morning but there doesnt seem much point now really does there.

I am sat at work really feeling so gutted. Thanks for all your advice.
Better luck next time I guess ... Good luck all xxxxxxx

Inbetweener I had a chemical pregnancy in December at about five weeks. I was devestated. I conceived in January and my baby is due in 9 days. There is nothing to say that this will happen again and nothing to say that you won't conceive again quickly. Becuase I mc'd so early my cycle went straight back to a 28 day cycle - ie 28 days after the start of the bleeding and I ovulated at the usual time. I have been more worried through this pregnancy but everything has been fine - better than fine the whole way through. There is hope so although it feels horrid now it will pass. Good luck, SB x
