Clean pool in Central London?

Can anyone recommend a decent pool somewhere in London zones 1 or 2 that does day passes (as it's not worth my taking out a full membership), is clean and has hygienic changing rooms?

I'm not flush enough for the Sanctuary or anything like that. I thought Oasis might be alright but it doesn't have a good reputation for hygiene and I usually pick up bugs if I go to the wrong sort of pool because of my asthma. I'm a Lambeth resident but my workplace is in the City.

I used to use Oasis when I worked in Covent Garden and never had a problem with the hygiene there, except in the school holidays/at the weekends when it would be a bit grubby in the changing rooms.

When I worked in the Barbican I used the pool at the Golden Lane Leisure Centre, and liked it a lot, but I can't for the life of me remember how I paid for it - it may have been a monthly swim pass as I used to use the gym at the Barbican YMCA as well and I think they were linked. It can't have been all that pricey though as I never had much money. Actually, I seem to remember just paying on a swim-by-swim basis for a while and then getting some kind of monthly pass. Anyway, it does of course depend on where in the city you are, but it was very handy for Barbican tube and not far from Moorgate either.

University of London Union (ULU) has a good pool on Malet Street (Bloomsbury), used to be clean when I worked upstairs! I don't know what the pass situation is but I'm sure it's on the net.

Cannons In Covent Garden was small but clean. Endell st iirc. Not sure about price etc.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to start by trying out the Nuffield in Covent Garden, as it does a free trial day pass. Glitterjo, you're probably right about Oasis being fine now we're past the summer. Someone I've spoken to has recommended the YMCA pool as well. I'll investigate the others. :o

I used to use the YMCA in Tottenham Court Road years ago - it was lovely.

Also, London Fields Lido in Hackney is gorgeous. It is outdoors but heated.

yy to Golden Lane
you don't need to join the YMCA, although if you are looking for a cheap gym it's worth it.
