I would agree about the tonic water thing - you can almost imagine that it's got a vodka or gin with it! Wink I've been drinking tonic water whenever I'm out, that way you even look like you're joining in the party even though you're not!

JoEW · 12/10/2010 14:19

Also tried the Sainsbury's Alcohol Free sparkling wine. It really isn't too bad if you have it really cold. It's not anywhere near as nice as a proper glass of wine but it makes a nice change from other soft drinks (I hate sweet drinks so really struggle) and kind of tastes like fizzy grape juice. It isn't horrible though and I work in the wine industry so am a very fussy bugger when it comes to wine.

Also agree on Becks Blue though, annoyingly, I never fancy a beer where as I could happily drink wine still.

FindingMyMojo · 12/10/2010 14:31

Erdinger alcohol free wheet beer - marvellous stuff & tastes (almost) just like the real thing. you can order online from the alcohol free booze website

BlingLoving · 12/10/2010 14:32

I have been quite fancying beer so will try the becks and the bavaria recommended here. My doctor told me that the odd drink is fine and my plan is to have the occasional shandy made up with one of our small bottles of beer (275ml) and the same amount of lemondade, but if the alchohol free stuff is good it will be great to have one after work sometimes too.

Matsikula · 12/10/2010 14:36

The Becks Blue is so realistic that a male friend once drank four and wondered why he wasn't drunk.

Nastro Azzuro also do one, which they have in Pizza Express. I remember beer and pizza feeling pretty damned good.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2010 14:42

becks blue is fab and even tastes like beer

i got several pints of it and gave it to dh and his friends in the pub and said run out of stella but barman reconmended this

all said it was really nice and when i told them it was alcohol free they didnt beleive me Grin

kaliber is rank

we have becks blue at home and sometimes dh will mix it as a shandy as a nice refreshing alcohol free drink :)

TerrysNo2 · 12/10/2010 14:45

Becks definitely - Cobra is ok.

Kopperberg do a nice non alcholic pear cider.

MissLolita · 15/11/2010 14:03

I agree with Becks Blue but I'm craving a decent white wine. I found this whole website dedicated to non-alcoholic wonders but I suspect that in reality they will all taste horrible.....

MissLolita · 15/11/2010 14:03

www.alcoholfree.co.uk/index.php?cPath=2_46_15 Sorry!

franke · 15/11/2010 14:06

The Bavaria one mentioned further up the thread and also Clausthaler which I think is available in the UK. I drank it all through pg and beyond.

ziptoes · 15/11/2010 15:30

Dorada alcohol free beer - brewed in the Canaries. No aftertaste. Yum. No idea if you can buy it in the UK, though.

Tonic, ice and lemon. Almost tastes like a GnT. Tastes much more like GnT if you add a couple of drops of G. Don't ask for this in a pub though they can't do a couple of drops. Certainly no more alcohol than a lot of alcohol "free" beers, which do actually have a wee bit in (had a relative who would have died drinking any alcohol at all, all he found to drink was Bitburger and it was vile).

lucy101 · 15/11/2010 15:55

I tried this on Jazzandh's suggestion below: Chapel Hill sparkling non-alcoholic wine in Waitrose/Ocado... and it really was quite nice and not undrinkably sweet. Going to be my Christmas lunch drink I think!

Havingkittens · 15/11/2010 17:47

Some of the Ariel reds are nice but the whites are generally a bit sweet. You can get them on www.lono.co.uk

Apparently Torres, the Spanish winemaker have launched a 0.5% alcohol wine made with muscat which sounds like it might be nice. You can buy it from Ocado apparently. I only found out about this last night when I told my auntie, who gave up drinking 18 months ago, that I was 5 weeks pregnant so I've not had time to try it yet.

The Bavaria is also my top choice for alcohol free beer.

As far as other substitutes go, I also quite like Tropicana's Pineapple and Passionfruit juice for the zingy tang that I miss not being able to drink Sauvignon Blanc - although it obviously doesn't have the dryness aspect.

girlsyearapart · 15/11/2010 17:59

Also came on to say becks blue so I guess you got your answer!
Wine was all manky would rather have appletise or a teeny bit of real wine with lemonade or soda

anonymousbird · 15/11/2010 18:11

Becks gets a vote here.

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 15/11/2010 19:08

Hollandia is my favourite. And is 0.0%.

DrJulia · 24/04/2011 22:35

Torres have just started selling a superb white wine called Natureo. You can get it from www.sansinwines.co.uk

Snakeears · 24/04/2011 22:39

cobra is rank - don't do it!

Bavaria (or something) and I would agree with Becks

Bumperlicioso · 24/04/2011 22:43

Becks blue. Have never tried a nice non-alcoholic wine, but then I'm not adverse to a glass of the real thing during pg. First Cape do a nice sparkling rose which is only about 5% (half usual alcohol content of wine).

Flisspaps · 24/04/2011 22:43

Nothing. It was all horrible and a waste of time.

cheekylittlenamechange · 24/04/2011 22:52

I opted for sparkling elderflower. It's so scrummy I still drink it over wine!

MummyAbroad · 25/04/2011 00:18

I have given up with alcohol free stuff and just drink Ginger Ale with lots of ice or orange juice and sparkling water. I am curious about the Becks Blue now though, as I have never tried it...

Honeydragon · 25/04/2011 00:27

I love Becks Blue, the recycling bins always rammed with empty bottles. I must look like a complete drunken lush when the bins go out but am actually tee total Grin

OrangeGloss · 25/04/2011 06:51

I just came on to say Becks Blue and see it already has a fan base Grin but I'll be looking for the non-alcoholic kopperberg now sounds ideal for summer

sunshineoutdoors · 25/04/2011 07:37

becks blue for me too. Non preg friends have accidently drunk mine before and not even noticed it's not the real thing.
