I liked Bavaria 0% better than Becks. Bit more 'hoppy'

CrispyTheCrisp · 07/10/2010 20:30

Spooky Spiggy - exactly the same time posted

spiggy · 07/10/2010 20:33

Grin Crispy.

I'm drinking a bottle of it at the moment as well!

Beveridge · 07/10/2010 20:37

Yes Jeelypiece, the M&S softbrew ones are fab - just the job if you fancy something 'beery'but are not allowed. They do apple and citrus ones as well.

Asda did an Extra Special shandy (same strength as Top Deck!) when I was pregnant last time that was absolutely lovely.

Only they went and stopped making it immediately after I discovered itSad. And all the others they had (Bass, etc) were full of cheap and nasty stuff and sweeteners.

CrispyTheCrisp · 07/10/2010 20:39

At least we can't be accused of being the same person Wink. Enjoy the Bavaria, although not pg, i do keep some in to take to social occasions if i am driving

Totallyfloaty35 · 07/10/2010 20:44

I've enjoyed the odd glass of alcohol while pregnant, but the most delicious non-alcoholic drink I've had is 2/3 fruit juice with 1/3 sparkling water. Refreshing, a bit fizzy, not too sugary.

Another option is mixing alcohol-free beer with normal beer to create a mid-strength.

cowboylover · 07/10/2010 20:52

Bavaria 0% (brewed by Monks in holland) better than Becks and Kaliber as you dont get the after taste. Its brewed with no alcohol at all and the others have it removed later which is what gives the after taste you get when tasting 0% beers.

I love Cobra 0% as you can still have that great treat with food and the traditional Cobra and Curry moment.

If you want mid strenth or low alch C2 is nice with 2% but tastes just like Carling if you want a proper pint feel.

I have not found a good 0% wine yet but still looking.

Silvj · 07/10/2010 20:55

Another vote for Becks Blue.
Tastes just like Stella.
I think it had a placebo effect on me whilst pregnant with DD, as I used to get the sensation of feeling a bit merry...

DilysPrice · 07/10/2010 20:58

The Bavaria 0% wheat beer variant is delicious and cheap and Ocado deliver it.
M&S Softbrew (esp the lemon-flavour one) is completely addictive (heaven knows how many calories it has - trying not to find out) but comes in heavy glass bottles which are a pig to lug back home and costs a pound a bottle which seems excessive (although I think they offer it as an option in their meal deals).

huffpuff75 · 07/10/2010 21:01

Becks Blue for me too. Tastes like real beer. San Miguel 0% is even better but only had that in Spain/Canaries. Cobra 0% is vile though.

Sainsbury's Low alcohol cider is OK - v low alcohol, something like half a unit in a 500ml bottle.

EightiesChick · 07/10/2010 21:02

Another vote for Becks. Didn't even bother attempting alcohol-free wine.

BerryLellow · 07/10/2010 21:05

I actually quite liked Cobra Zero, especially with a curry :)

BigBoldAndBeautiful · 07/10/2010 21:40

Another vote for Bavaria, lovely, must get some when next in Sainsbury's

jazzandh · 07/10/2010 21:51

Becks Blue, Bavaria or I found a Chapel Hill sparkling non-alcoholic wine in Waitrose/Ocado that was palatable ie not too sweet.

FrozenMargherita · 07/10/2010 22:45

Definitely with you on the Bavaria wheatbeer, no nasty aftertaste and could almost be real beer! Will probably keep drinking it once baby here and bf finished. Didn't like Cobra Zero as I thought it had a really chemical aftertaste.

SittingWatchingWaiting · 08/10/2010 17:06

Becks blue too! Grin

BrigitBigKnickers · 08/10/2010 17:12

Becks Blue- without a doubt.

ro4chat · 08/10/2010 17:13

Sainsburys Alcohol Free Rose is pretty good, quite sweet and very realistic smell. Reasonably priced too.

RedFraggle · 08/10/2010 17:20

ASDA stock a de-alcoholised wine called Fre which is lovely. Well the Rose is, the red was a bit meh...

I drink it even when I'm not pregnant just because I like the taste Smile

ecuse · 08/10/2010 18:47

The in-laws bought me a range of Eisberg alcohol-free 'wine' whilst I was on holiday with them last week. The whites were pretty shit, but I got quite into the rose.

LobstersLass · 08/10/2010 20:08

Another vote for Becks Blue.
Kopparberg alcohol free pear cider is also very tasty - if a little sweet.

cerealqueen · 10/10/2010 10:16

Becks blue is the best, Sainsbury's used to do one that was also nice but haven't seen in a while. Is that the Bavaria people are talking about? I drank that when not pregnant too!

The Sainsbury's sparkling wine is also nice.

Waitrose no/low (?) alcohol cider is lovely.

The no alcohol wines are generally rank. I ordered a case from a alcohol free website, thinking I'd find one good one. The reds were the worst, best drunk chilled was the advice! I like full bodied red and they were just euggghh. I drank a few bottles, then used some in cooking. The whites were slightly more palatable.

weblette · 10/10/2010 10:21

Kronenburg Pur Malt is just gorgeous. You can only get it in France tho... Otherwise Becks Blue
