Reaching end of my tether with constipation and just wanted to double check these are safe in pregnancy (I'm due any day now).

I checked the box I have in the cupboard the other day and it says to check with the doctor first so I just drank about a litre of water and that seemed to work pretty quickly.

nothing works with me and its getting so uncomfortable- doeas anyone have any experience of using these?

my doctor said they are fine and totally safe to use. avoid laxative suppositories, though.

They work by drawing water into the rectum to soften things - definitely safe to use in pregnancy. It's got to be better for your pelvic floor than straining.

oh i used these at the start of pg after reading about them on here. such relief!

:)

Have you tried prune juice and fybogel? Working for me at the moment...

How about tinned grapefruit? I've been plagued in each of my pregs with constipation (to the point of insanity) but a tin (ahem, large, family-sized/catering tin) every couple of days does the trick for me. Might be worth a go? Good luck!

I used Microlax for constipation in pregnancy - prescribed by my GP.
Mine was due to hyperemesis which hit me very intensely and I wasn't able to keep even sips of water down so no question of eating prunes, grapefruit etc.

I was given one in hospital at 38 weeks whilst waiting for my section with my last little one. So I’d say go for it. I’ve actually used one this week too. I’m 22 weeks today x

PolarBearStrength · 13/10/2020 10:37

Totally fine. Used them loads in early pregnancy due to hideous constipation caused by hyperemesis and ondansetron.

Teakind · 13/10/2020 14:31

Lactulose is also really effective and ok to use in pregnancy

FilthyforFirth · 13/10/2020 15:03

Totally fine, I have used them weekly due to HG, and now 34 weeks.

NICE guidelines and my GP said they’re fine.

Movicol is the stuff though!
