How should I use birth ball?

I got a birthball today as I have mid backache (between bra strap and small of back). But I have no idea how to use it. Do I bounce on it or just sit on it? Anything else? Thanks in advance.

Do whatever is comfy. I used to sit on mine to watch telly (knees lower than my hips) to get the baby into position. It involved a bit of bouncing cos it is hard to sit completely still on a ball.

Do I remember you from the ttc threads? If so, huge congratulations! (well, congratulations anyway - you know what I mean!)

Aw thank you! I was on ttc threads for
two years and conceived literally the month before starting iui. Can barely believe it!!

Congrats due to you too?
Xx

I used to kneel on the floor and rest my upper body on it, was v.comfy. You can rock back and forth which I found good for lower backache.

Congrats yellow i was on your thread for a while in TTC :) made up for you! I am also expecting in April :). And good question. Must pump mine up! x

Hello - I second the 'kneeling behind and leaning your upper body on the ball'- especially as your baby gets bigger.

It feels great on your back and also encourages your baby to get in the best possible position- it turns your bump into a hammock and as my midwife said to me 'you wouldn't lie face down in a hammock, would you?'!!!

I third the back goodness.
I lay back on mine about three weeks ago for the first tie and rolled my spine up it - got the most satisfying cracks and crunches and felt soooo goooooood!!!!

Sinkingfeeling · 07/10/2010 12:47

I just used to bounce on mine - alternatively, throw it at your partner's head when they are being less than supportive. :)

Fab - thank you all. And how fab kitty - am so thrilled for you. That is wonderful news. I often wonder what happened to our thread people but the thread itself seemed to die out. xx

I have been thinking about getting a ball. Where do you get them from and can you use them at any time in your pregnancy?

I wanted to take it into hospital for labour too but can it be inflated and deflated or does it stay up once its up?

Oh and congrats OP!!

We conceived DS after 3 years of trying and a month before starting IVF! Am now 22 weeks pregnant with DD after trying once!
