I have slight, lets say looseness from my previous pregnancy so its soft and flabby below my belly button but hard up to my bra line. Why is this seeing as the babys down the bottom?

I am 15 weeks atm and am quite big i think for so early.

I have this and I'm sorry to say but it is just the little fat bit of belly I had before I was pregnant! The hard bit (in my case) is just my stomach muscles giving out earlier this time around and getting ready to be full of baby!

i'm similar - my tummy seems quite flat but squishy under the belly button, but hard(ish!) and sticking out above the belly button - i have an upside down bump! it makes nooooo sense to me. This is my first pg but didnt really have much stomach muscle to begin with.

Mine is a bit like that, I'm coming up for 18 weeks. I figured it was my insides getting pushed up and squished as they get less room, but I could be entitely wrong!

Thank goodness somebody else has raised this. My first pregnancy too so I really don't know what to expect. I'm overweight so can't feel anything lower down (although like to pretend it's all bump obv.) but I've got a definate, hard hand-sized bump just below my bra line. It's sort of oval shaped. I assumed it was my stomach but who the heck knows!! It can't be baby?

pettyprudence · 05/10/2010 21:36

southsearocks - im on the overweight side too - my friend is telling me that its my organs being pushed up out of the way, but it seems to early for that? I think i now just have hard fat as well as squishy fat too lol

Mine is flabby at the bottom and hard at the top. My advice : underbump trousers just makes it look worse. I plan to wear over bump trousers now for the rest of my life Wink

Could be bloating at that stage - I was really bloated through the 1st trimester and that was at the top of the bump.

By 15 weeks I don't think your fundal height would normally be above your navel, so I would doubt any bump right by your bra line is actually baby/womb.

I was exactly the same at 15 weeks both this time and with DS1. I'm now 24 weeks and the under the boob bump is much bigger, with a squishy belly underneath. Most of the time I feel baby kick in the squishy bit....very weird, but also very normal. Grin

Congratulations BTW>

Mammie81- Totally agree, over the bump all the way.

Glad im not the only one with an upside down bump then thanks!

Wrong. This is not fat. It’s called the fundus and it’s the top of your uterus which is a muscle. So basically you’re feeling the top of your uterus.

I always carry high. I get bump above the navel then it spreads down and all around as baby gets bigger. I've had some pretty impressive bumps too, especially with our twins.
Thanks to all the excess skin from big bumps all my flab sinks down low and I have a right jelly belly. Wearing maternity bottoms offers no support but anything tighter is uncomfortable at the top of bump, I'm 19+1wk with a singleton atm.

Chelyanne · 24/03/2021 16:37

Oh and I think the reason behind it is your stomach etc being pushed up 1st, not actually baby and the uterus near your ribs as they're not big enough.
I had quite bad diastasis recti after our twins and felt my upper abs pop at 15wk this pregnancy with a sharp pain, since then I look much further on as the relaxed abs stick out loads. Pic of 36wk double bump, kept them in another 2 week, took me years in the gym to repair the damage.
