Membrane Sweep 37 weeks?

Hi haven't wrote in for a while. Saw midwife today - I am 36 weeks pregnant and she suggested she does a sweep next week to see if it gets things moving so I don't go overdue. Has anyone heard of a sweep being done this early or had one done?

I had one done at 36 weeks. It didn't work, so I was induced at 37 weeks (Obstetric Cholestasis).

HTH

wow - do you think i could ask my mw to do one for me next week (then again ill only be 35 weeks so she would probably say no!)

ruthiemum · 08/09/2005 19:07

That's what I can't understand why she wants to do it, I have no condition she just said she will try and do it so I don't go over due date. Am just quite nervous about it, think I will ask her when she comes round if she really needs to do it.

i wouldnt pass up the oppurtunity, but then ive totally had enough of this pregnancy! Running around after a 13.5 month old and moving house tomorrow isnt helping!

Magscat · 08/09/2005 19:11

Don't know about doing it early _ I thought if it's going to work it will do so within a day or two.

Don't be nervous about the actual sweep though -it's not painful - wasn't for me anyway (I had one a few days before term). It's like having a smear done - uncomfortable while they're doing it but doesn't hurt and absolutely fine as soon as they've done. No metal crank thingy - just fingers

Sounds nice! Don't want to pass it up at all, like you have had enough of chasing a toddler round and I would love not to feel like this anymore - just really nervous about it.

I'd avoid it if it was me. Especially when you are not overdue!

UUUGGHHH????
My MW wasnt even allowed to give me one on my DUE DATE - she said she could nt do it until i was 40 +7.

starlover · 08/09/2005 19:59

i wouldn't have it done. why would you want a premature baby?

Busyalexsmummy · 08/09/2005 21:58

Id wait till your 37+ wks then go for it!
Im sure shes not actually allowed to do a sweep before 37 weeks anyway, only 37 weeks and beond is considered "term"

Kaloo20 · 09/09/2005 14:28

I had one at 38 weeks - due to be done at 37 weeks but I phoned up on the morning and posponed it for a week

Just fingers - see earlier comments by Magscat. Went into labour within 20 minutes, and baby born exactly 2 hours after sweep given A fabulously easy labour was my special treat after the high risk pregnancy from hell !

I have MW tomorrow. I am 38 weeks and have very bad SPD. Was going to ask for sweep, do you think she will do it?
