Do you think the sonographer will take a picture of the babies 'nub'

I've seen a site where people guess the sex of the baby from the 'angle of the genital dangle' Quite catchy, that.

Once the sonographers done all the real stuff that the scan is actully for, do you think I could ask for a snap?

Seriosly though, do you think they will mind - or think me mental? Will be 13 weeks so they might be able to get a decent one!

I think the site is mostly people int he USA where they pay for their scans so the sonographers are happier to do one, maybe?

Why don't you just ask the sonographer to tell you the sex?

At our hospital they are happy to give you a picture or two (for a small fee). At 12 weeks it is of the whole baby and at 20 weeks is of the face/head as the whole baby will not fit in the picture any more.

At 13 weeks they can't tell the sex anyway.

At the 20 week scan you could see DS' willy and it was on the printed picture. You could still see all of him at once though - it was only the 34 week scan where he wouldn't all fit on the screen.

at 13 weeks they can tell the sex. Baby is fully formed by then. Is just less accurate to predict then. My sonographer told me at 12 week scan and sex was same at 20week scan and birth!

I've seen some people having a picture of the bottom - like if someone sat naked on a glass table.

I think it will depend on whether the baby is in the right position to be able to get such a picture, and whether or not you get a grumpy sonographer!

If your sonographer is anything like mine was, you will be a brave woman to ask!
Worth a try though :)

On the subject of nub theory, does this still apply at the 21 week scan?
If not, was the willy-like thing I saw in that region actually a willy?

I had a private scan at 13 weeks and was told it's a girl as the nub was pointing up, we had our 21 week scan last week and it is indeed a little girl :-)

We got a scan at 20 weeks, where we asked for the sex. She made sure we wanted to know, told us, we asked for a photo, she said 'ok', session ended.
Sitting in waiting room, she sidles up to me, all embarrassed and full of apologies for capturing a nice willy angle in the photo by accident!

We thought it was funny :)
And we got a free photo!

That's interesting xkatyx, from what I've read I thought nub pointing up meant a boy and nub pointing down or straight was a girl?

NHS sonographers are real bitches (generalization from my own experience) they will not do what you ask, especially if you ask. Sorry, NHS sonographers if you are reading this, but I paid for 2 private scans so far in my pregnancy because I was treated poorly or was not provided with information and reassurance at the NHS scan.
I recommend going in and saying nothing about the nub or the gender, hoping that they will give you a side shot that includes a nub. The best thing to do is get a private scan because they will be nice to you and give/show you anything that they can because you are a paying client. If you wait until 16 weeks you can get a sure gender identification from a private sonographer and not just a nub guess :)

I've got a few VERY CLEAR pictures of cock & balls. I intend to show them to his first girlfriend!

zapostrophe I did have a very bad experience with very unfriendly sonographers. My questions were not answered, I had rude responses to my inquiries and the gender was provided to me in a form of quote on quote "it is 50/50 chance that it is a girl", hm thanks but how is that better than my own prediction. However the gender identification was never a priority to me, being team green is OK for me especially if the baby did not turn or had the legs crossed or whatever, but after each NHS scan I was left with more concerns about the baby's health than I actually had prior the appointment and it should not be like that. It was mainly because I had no faith in the sonographer mainly due to lack of information that was provided to me.
I do have real nice mid wives however but the sonographers have been less than just disappointing so far. I found private scans to be more helpful and much more informative. Based on what I hear that NHS can be inconsistent when it comes to pregnancy and birth. I am really glad that you had really great experiences so far. My only hope that when the time comes to give birth I can have positive experience like you. :)

Yes, I think the idea of a gender scan at 16 weeks privatly is probably the best idea.

I'm sure she said if the nub point up it's a girl, but maybe in the haze of excitment i got it wrong.

But the lady that did my scan can tell from 12 weeks she is amazing and is well known, i was reccomended to her is one of the best, she really is lovely.

"Angle of the dangle" or nub theory -- does appear to be pretty accurate if judgement made by a trained and experienced sonographer. Conventional sexing (i.e. looking at the appearance of the relevant bits) is pretty much useless at 13 week scan as they look pretty much exactly the same (scroll earlier up that page for shots that show that very clearly). But there is a SLIGHT difference in the angle between boys and girls, but you can only see it in a profile shot and if the baby isn't too curled up.

I think very unlikely that the sonographer will deliberately give you a nub shot. You might be lucky and happen to get one, but if your best bet is to look at the screen and try to mentally judge the angle in your head, I think. You'd be more likely to get a sonographer prepared to give you a nub-based estimate of gender in the US, I think.
