Hiya,

I have changed my name for this post as I feel a little silly about it!

I am 11 weeks pregnant with my 4th child.

I have been very ill this time and every symptom seems to be alot worse than it was with my other pregnancies.

For some reason everyone keeps mentioning twins, I know people like to joke, but it was never mentioned with my others but now its seems to be a private joke everyone is in on!

This is the part I look like a loon: Grin My gran has some very spooky things about her, she always 'knows' if someone in the family is pregnant and she says she has been having dreams about twins being born alot lately.

She says she can't see if its me or my sister (who is TTC)

I don't know what I'm even asking but I don't have my scan for another week and a half but am already nervous!

There are no twins in my family AFAIK but DH has cousins that are twins, non identical b/g.

Has anyone ever felt anything like this and NOT been having twins?!

lots of people on the boards have had this, and then had a singleton. I had no idea it was twins until the scan.

Non id twins can run in families, but on your side not DH, you are also more likely to have non id twins if you are an older mum. Its probably you just being nervous about how you will cope, if your lucky enough to be blessed with twins.

Identical twins aren't genetic, apparently it's just spontaneous, so you could be expecting identical twins even if there are no twins in the family.

I did because of the symptoms and my age, though I think mainly it was down to the fear that if I did have them then I wouldn't be able to cope, both emotionally, practically and financially.

It was the first thing I asked the sonographer during the scan as well.

My sister has twins though I think they must be on the fathers side.

FWIW, DD was a singleton as is DC2 who I am pregnant with now.

I was so incredibly ill with my last pregnancy and was showing a bump by 8 weeks that I convinced myself that it was twins and was so freaked out i payed for an early scan.

Thankfully it was just the one baby when i had the scan at 13 weeks, however ds2 is left handed and I do sometimes wonder if there's any truth to the idea that all left handers were originally part of a set of twins but that one was lost.... with the scan being so late on it's a distinct possibility I could have been carrying two and lost one by that point. But I guess i'll never know.

buttonmoon78 · 04/10/2010 11:56

I know a set of twins who are both left handers. And several who are both right handers.

If you're having a scan next week then it will all become clear then.

If it's twins you will cope with your usual aplomb.

Good luck and let us know.

Ps - it's not silly at all. When you're pg you're more prone to 'fancies' as my grandma says and some turn out to be accurate, some less so!

I'm sure its nothing, I think I'm just hormonal and prone to freak outs at the moment!

This was also the case with me, completely different pregnancy, stronger symptoms, twins in the family and MIL is slightly pyschic and said we are having a boy and girl.

She was wrong though and there is only one in there.
Its not a bad thing to be having twins anyway so i wouldnt worry, just double the excitment im guessing. No point worrying what will be will be! :-)
