Ikea cot? Any good?

I have searching for cots and have found it really hard to find anything I like that is affordable. However, Ikea do have one which is quite cute and only £75 but i am worried that the mattress might not be good enough. Has anybody else used an ikea cot? I am assuming it would be hard to find a mattress somewhere else that fits perfectly.

We were going to get an Ikea one (leksvig I think) but I was put off in the shop as although they are all meant to be the same size, the mattresses didn't fit all the demo cots that were set up - some had a perfect fit and some had massive gaps round the mattress. I was worried we'd put the cot up and then the mattress would be too small, and of course you can't return things to ikea once you've assembled them. We went to John Lewis in the end - they do have some cheaper ones, I was surprised.

We bought an ikea one the other day because it was such great value. Mattress looks fine to me and fits quite snugly into the cot. You need to make sure you choose the right mattress for the particular cot you've picked

We bought the cot & mattress separately. Cheap cot but expensive mattress. Are you sure it's included with that one?

hi i have an ikea cot and ds still uses it at nearly 2 and a half. the side comes off too so he will be able to use it as a bed. we got the matress from ikea and the matress protector too, is easy to throw in the wash compared to the matress. i think the matress is a standard size as i've been looking at them for new babay and 60X120cm seems to be the norm for cots.

We had an Ikea cot for DD 4 years ago. She used it up until 2.5. We'll be using it for DC2 when she/he arrives in January. We chose an Ikea sprung mattress that cost around £30 at the time and it looks good as new (always covered in waterproof cover and several sheets). I think their cot/mattress sizes might have changed in the last few years so you need to make sure that you have the correct mattress for the size of cot.

Thank you all so much for your advice, I think we will go for it and make sure to buy the best mattress they have as that seems to be the most important thing. That way we can also get a matching chest of draws/ changing table!

Ikea cots are smaller than normal cots and only ikea matresses fit

yes, i agree. ikea cots are noticably smaller than others. This ime i am looking at a cotbed (hoping to save money later on!)

we have a leksvig and like it a lot. The striped mattress (I think the more expensive one) fitted fine. The smaller size was good for us cos it goes in a small room and DS is perfectly happy in it. Ikea were also amazing when we came to lower it down months after first assembling it and couldn't find the instructions. Their live online help service emailed a copy within 5 mins.

I wanted a small one as some cots seemed so big and I don't see the need for a large one as both mine were in beds before they were 2.

We have just bought a leksvig and its a fab cot we got the matching wardrobe and changing unit and its fantastic really well made the matress fits it perfectly :)

We have a fab blue one from ikea. It looks nice, was cheap and does the job. The mattress is fine too.

Just in case you're wanting a mattress from elsewhere, we got one from here for dd's bedside cot as it was a funny size, price seemed ok (about £30 I think for a custom size)

we've got the leksvig cot, it's great and the mattress is fine (and fits).

We have the henksvig and bought a good quality sprung mattress separately which fits fine.

we bought an Ikea cotbed which was reduced to £25 in the sale, assembled it at the weekend and love it, can't recommend the Ikea sale enough (if you have time to wait to look in the January sale for your cot I definitely would).

We bought our mattress from Tesco direct though (120x60 size so fits all the Ikea range in theory) and it fits beautifully in the Ikea cotbed we have.

They aren't smaller, they are 120 x 60 cm, which is standard. It's just that their normal cots convert to toddler beds, rather than being cotbed size and converting.

BTW, if you're anywhere near Warwickshire I have an ikea cot I'm looking to sell, I can confirm it fits a normal cot mattress as we used a Mothercare one.

It's the red Hermelin one which they don't make any more, but you can google for a picture.

We have an Ikea cot - you buy the cots and matresses separately. So, you can buy a cheap matress or an expensive one - your choice. We went for a mid-range sprung matress and it fits very snugly into the cot. There are absolutely no gaps around it at all. The cot we have has two different heights and a side that you can take off, so it can become a small cotbed.

I'm sure they're fine but when I was pregnant with dd I saw a number of times a sign in the papers from Ikea recalling cots due to safety problems.

We bought a cot/bed from a local shop it works out cheaper then buying a cot and then a bed later.

BUt you still have to buy a bed eventually

I moved dd3 out of her Ikea cot in July. She was 3.3 at that time. We had it for dd2 as well so about 6 years use out of it and loaned it to a friend in between and the only thing we bought was a new mattress for dd3. I think the cot was about £30 when we bought it! Without question exceptional good value.
