How does a Breech baby feel?

Hello,

I went to the midwife today and she suspects my LO might be breech (I'm 36+5), what I want to know is how does a breech baby feel with kicks and the like?

I'll be honest, I don't think he is breech but I was wondering about others experiences.

(as a side note I do have rib pain but it's on the opp side to where the midwife thinks his head is).

Any help would be appreciated.

You'll feel your bladder being kicked like you wouldn't believe. Also the head is hard and their bottom is slightly softer so you'll feel their little hard head under your ribs.

That was my experiance when dd was breech for a little while.

Have given my 2p on antenatal. Even if he is, there is still time to turn.

Well DS2 was undiagnosed breech so i can't say he felt any different to DS1 who was head down! Sorry no help!

But...the MWs did say to me i was unusual & they can tell with most women as they complain about not being able to straighten up - the best way she had of describing it was:

when the couple go on their last dinner before baby comes the woman can't reach the table, not cos of bump as such but because she can't bring her shoulders/chest/head forward enough as the head is in the way.

Does that make any sense?

DD1 was undiagnosed breech too. In retrospect, the fact that I had a big lump that almost felt like it was going under my ribs should have been a clue - it was obviously her head. She was small when born (5lb 12) and I think that had some impact on them not spotting it..

I had really bad rib pain with DS1's head pushing up against them. Bizarrely, my ribs are now actually permanently pushed out because of this!

Tricky, cos a little hard bottom can feel like a head anyway. I was convinced dc1 and 2 were breech, but they weren't.

With dc3 I had a larger, rounder hard lump under my ribs, that moved from 12 o'clock position to about 3 o'clock. At that point I really thought it might be breech, cos I couldn't see how a bottom could make those movements. I was right, confirmed by GP and confirmed by scan.

hmm when are you next seeing your mw? I ask becasue if breech is suspected after 36 weeks you would usually be sent for a scan to confirm then if baby is breech offered ECV, I'm surpised the mw didnt do this as you are only 2 days away from term and baby could come any point, if baby is breech decisions will need to be made eg ecv or not vaginal birth or elective section.

to be perfectly blunt it felt that everytime DS kicked his foot was going to fall out my fanny sorry but it did!!!

Me I am booked in for a scan next week, but I was a bit confused as the same midwife saw me last time. LO was in the same position and she said he was head down then. So I wanted to compare what I was feeling to whats others experiences were to see if any of it rang true.

When my ds was expected, i had an anterior placenta. Around 38 weeks i didn't feel much kicking (i was used to the swift fanjo punches) so went into the hospital for monitoring. All was fine. Another two days, and no kicking again, monitoring at the hospital proved all was well. It wasn't until the end of the session that i said to one of the nurses, "you know his bottom is really hard" (ds had been like this for several weeks - right under the ribs), and she looked at me, had a feel and called in the circus. Turned out what i thought was his bottom was his head, and with an anterior placenta, they weren't keen on turning him. One week and elcs later, he was screaming like a champion.
