Sorry to hijack the thread but can someone describe to me what heartburn feels like?

Twiglett · 07/09/2005 18:31

Gaviscon on prescription

Be careful they do an aniseed version .. yuk yuk .. picked one up by mistake once

Heartburn .. basically feels like someone has thrown acid over the inside of your chest .. tends to be just under the breasts and burns and pains like nobody .. can be mistaken for a heart attack

nice eh?

faeriemum · 07/09/2005 18:31

like youve got acid stuck between ur throat and chest....can make u feel quite sick

Twiglett - You have to be kidding right? The aniseed one is the best! It's the other one that makes me feel sick...LOL

I find that the rennies are working better for me than the old gaviscon. I ate a whole pack the other night and didn't even know what heartburn felt like till i got pregnant.
It's horrible and i hate having to burp after all the antacids to feel free of it (sorry tmi)

You poor thing. I had it really badly, had several days off work when I was about 5/6 months I think. I couldn't eat, sleep, drink, walk properly, lie down - I just did not know what to do with myself. I would even try sticking my fingers down my throat to try and make myself puke, never successfully though. I thought if I couldn't cope with this how was I going to cope with labour? I convinced myself I was a wimp, but I got to 10 cms with a badly used tens alone, so I wasn't a wimp! Sorry am really rambling now.

And after all this? I still don't know what the solution is. The only thing I didn't try (because I didn't like taking it) was continually taking gaviscon on a regular basis. I only took it when I felt bad. Perhaps with regular use the symptoms will remain at bay. I hope so! I also hope it dosen't last with you for too long.
