Boosting my immune system in Pregnancy

I've had a cold on and off for a couple of months now, it's developed into a nasty cough and I'm generally feeling awful and really run down. It's probably not been helped by the fact that I've been eating rubbish because morning sickness has meant I've had to eat what I can, which has largely been orange lucozade and biscuits. However, the sickness has eased now and my diet is improving. What can I take to boost my immune system? I'm 15 weeks pg.

A good pregnancy-specific multi vitamin would help, if you're not already taking one. I personally use pregnacare. Do be careful if you are going to just take an ordinary one though, as they contain vitamin A, which isn't recommended during PG.

hey try probiotics as there has been a study recently that supports the use of these during pgny. they help to detox the bowels etc and rid it of anythin thats cloggin up your system. if your diet is improvin jus eat alot of leafy green veg and those containin vit c like carrots, tomatoes etc and youll prob notice a difference within a few weeks!

Midwife recommended Floradix to me. It's primarily an iron supplement but has loads of vitamin c and b vitamins as well. It's all from natural plant sources. And tastes good - to me anyway. But that could be some weird pregnancy craving! You can get it in holland & barrett and most chemists.

I've consulted my Gillian McKeith book to see what she has to say on the subject. She recommends all sorts to boost immunity but the only ones that I think are both palatable & easily available are shiitake mushrooms, lemon peel & ginger root. Sounds like the basis of a tasty stir-fry to me! Also the ginger will help with morning sickness too.
Basically, any foods which contain anti-oxidants (vitamin A,C,E) will help. (Obviously you need to be cautious with vit A in pgny). The other thing she suggests is increasing your daily amount of raw foods, ideally 50% raw/50% cooked.

Hope this helps.
