Sudden plunge in energy - normal?

Hi all

I am about 30 weeks pregnant, and have had an uneventful pregnancy so far, healthwise. But for the last two days I have experienced a complete plunge in energy. I wake in the morning and feel okay, but within about half an hour I can barely lift my arms and my body just feels like shutting down. Quite often I just pass back out to sleep, but still feel pretty rough when I wake up a few hours later.

Later in the day I feel more normal, and I still have my appetite, but then I'll suddenly have nothing left again and have to lie down and sleep immediately.

When I'm feeling like that, it feels like my blood is slugging really slowly around my body and my head, and it's slightly more difficult to breathe.

Is this fairly normal for this stage of pregnancy, or could it be something else?

Many thanks

Hi islandbaby. I am 31w3d and have had the same problem for a few weeks now - though I just cannot get a full night's sleep! (hence the 5:28 msg!). This is my 1st DC and I'm determined to make the most of my resting time but it's just not happening with bad back/ spd/ the most active baby in the world!

Struggling at work with the lack energy too now - even just sat at my desk I start to feel out of breath. I'm thinking it's the difficult third trimester that everyone talks about - and why all the books say to get prepared for baby during the second!

Good luck, hope you feel a bit better soon. I'm off for a glass of warm milk to calm that indigestion...!

It happened to me too. My head would spin, start shaking then feel totally starving. I think it's probably normal. Just mention it next time you see the mw.

You could be anaemic. Get it checked :)

OliPocket · 26/09/2010 10:04

Yes, agree you might be anaemic. I am 28 weeks today and had this for the last 2 weeks. Just came on without warning. I saw my GP who has tested my blood. No results back yet but I was borderline at 10 weeks so he thinks I'm anaemic and has prescribed iron tablets. I'm feeling better already after one week on Spatone.

onimolap · 26/09/2010 10:12

It's not unusual, and may be just one of those things. But agree you need to have iron levels and your BP checked.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 26/09/2010 11:33

This all sounds like what I feel at the moment - am 27 weeks today and have felt this way for a week or so. I think I'm anaemic, am due the normal blood tests in a week, and in the meantime, my MW provided me with a box of Spatone, because she'd had a freebie delivery! Grin

I feel like I only have so much energy to expend each day. After doing a toddler group or a supermarket shop, that's it, I'm done. I spend most of the afternoon on the sofa while DS plays/watches Beebies. Luckily he's pretty compliant!

Am 31 weeks and a bit, and in the last week or so have been getting similar symptoms to you. Bit like hitting a brick wall, really. I feel well, as in not ill, but just really, REALLY tired.

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like something fairly common in pregnancy, but I´ll definitely get it checked out at the docs.

Thanks guys

I had this a few weeks ago am 35 weeks now and feel much better a lot of the time. My iron levels were borderline so I started a supplement and it helped I think
