I am 39+2 and for the last 6 weeks have suffered the worst water retention/kankles/carpel tunnel and would like to know how soon after giving birth can I wave it all good bye?! Hours? Days? Weeks? I just want to wear shoes that arent named after the sound that they make!! Grin

After giving birth I couldn't even get my feet in shoes they were so swollen, but it went away really quickly afterwards, probably within a week, two at the most.

I had massive fluid retention with ds (also had PE - have you been checked?). I remember that about two hours after ds was born a midwife came to check my catheter (he was a cs) and her eyes proper popped at the amount of wee in the bag. All the fluid came out within about a day of the birth - I was half the size almost instantly. Hope it's the same for you. :)

Thanks so much for the replies Smile Zippy yes I have been checked for PE and my MW is keeping an eye on my BP but all has been fine so far, I am just unlucky Sad Honestly, I never knew feet could have muffin tops Shock

I could literally feel myself shrinking. I was back in my pre-pregnancy clothes within a few days.

Wow that sounds amazing... I have an excessive fair ammount of shoes and have been staring at them longingly thinking will I ever wear them again?! And I have not eaten all of the pies whilst growing my egg so looking forward to seeing how much of it is actually water Grin

a few days.

but, honestly, until you've experienced the post-birth 'i appear to have someone else's legs' effect, you haven't seen water retention...

Maybe I shouldn't say that whilst I was back in my clothes ok, my shoes have never fitted me again...just gave my favourite slim fitting boots to my Mum as I've finally admitted I'll not be wearing them again.

i was warned by a dr friend it would ger worse before it got better.she could not have been more right. In ,y case i woke up in the night 48 hours aftr birth and freaked out by how ,uch bigger my already humungous legs and feet were, they just expanded so suddenly. Then it took a while to get better mostly bc illness ,eant i was immobile, and mobility/walking helps it to flush out but i couldnt dothat.
