My sil is due baby next week. She saw her consultant due to high blood pressure and she is to be induced on monday. He examined to check if her cervix was ripe and said she was 2cm dilated! I have 2 dd's but had rapid labours both times. Can you be 2cm dilated but not in labour or would you say she was in early stages of labour? Oh I did ask if she was contracting etc and she said shes having twinges and is uncomfortable but nothing regular. This was yesterday and she sais nothings changed today.

Is it her first baby?

Up to 3cm dilated is classed as the latent phase of labour and can occur over weeks, especially in first labours.

Yeah its her 1st, and thanks. Both my labours progressed quite quickly so I didnt really know what to say to her? Then I read in one book that established labour was 3cm! I thought it was 4/5cm? I suppose all labours vary. Is exciting though, not long to wait either way now Grin
