Firstly, i am typing this on my rubbish phone so apologies for the brevity of the message. I'm pregnant with my first child. 18+4. I've felt no movement. No flutters. Nothing that i thought was wind. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Everything has been ok at scans and mw appointments so come and tell me this is perfectly natural please.

With a first child it is very normal to not feel anything or to not know when you are feeling something! With subsequent ones you feel flutters quicker as you know what to expect.
It won't be long until you do feel it and then you will be complaining it kicks you all the time Smile

Congratulations on your first pregnancy!

hoolabombshell · 23/09/2010 19:31

Basketcase I'm 18+4 with my first too and have only really had flutters and pulses rather than what I would call actual 'movement' so far. Not too worried though as I wouldn't expect kicks for at least another few weeks! Enjoy the peace while you can.

sarahscot · 23/09/2010 19:33

I was 22 weeks when I felt movement with my first.

expectingno3 · 23/09/2010 19:46

I was 21 weeks with my first, 18 I think, with my second. For me, it was a bubbling sensation, like champagne bubbles popping!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 23/09/2010 19:52

About 16 weeks with first, 14 with this one, but I know loads of people who didn't feel anything until 18-20 weeks and all was well. It's a very subtle feeling, easy to miss, and I think everyone's built differently inside.

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 23/09/2010 19:57

I had flutters that I weren't sure whether they were wind or not from about 19 weeks I think. The first time I felt a definite kick I was 22 weeks.

Julezboo · 23/09/2010 20:01

I was 22 weeks with my first when I felt movement. Im 19+3 now and its only in the past week I have felt it more and its my 3rd!

babynelly2010 · 23/09/2010 20:04

I felt a proper kick between 17 to 18 weeks. This is my first baby. Now I am almost 22 weeks, I can feel the baby but it is not real kicking for most part, its more like movement with in. I am not sure if you know about the location of your placenta but if it is in front it will take longer to feel the movement because it serves as a cushion. My GP was very surprised when I told her that I felt the baby before 18 weeks, it is not usual for the first time moms.
I hope you get your movement soon because it is wonderful :) Don't stress though, everyone is different.

mumbybumby · 23/09/2010 20:07

I was 18 weeks with my first and about 16 with this one. Would easily have missed the first movements if I didn't remember how it felt from 1st! Gets me through a boring day at work, mine and baby's secret poking game! :)

Lozario · 23/09/2010 21:17

I was about 22 weeks with first, didn't really know what I was looking for- it starts much lower down than you expect I think.

I'm 14 weeks with second now and felt flutters for the first time a couple of nights ago on a rare occasion of lying still for a while!!

MissCKitty · 23/09/2010 22:08

Am 22 weeks with my first and i felt soemthing about wk 18 but it was so light that i wasnt even sure i had felt it iykwim. Now it varies from day to day. I've had a couple of really strong kicks (even DP could feel it), a feeling that something has just flipped over inside but mostly its like popping bubbles Grin I love it, its so cool x

TooImmature2BMum · 25/09/2010 18:00

I'm glad you posted this because I am 17+2 with first baby and everyone has been asking me recently if I've felt anything yet, which I haven't. The midwife asked me at the 15 week appointment, and then said the average for first-timers was between 18 and 22 weeks. Still, the fact she asked made me think maybe if I really concentrated then I would...nope! I know it was kicking at the first scan because I saw it, but don't feel a thing.

TotorosOcarina · 25/09/2010 18:01

about 19 weeks with first,

with DC3 it was 14 weeks!

23-24 weeks. It is my first. I thought there was something wrong with me but I have an anterior placenta. Now almost 34 weeks and the kicking never stops. But it's also pushing and moving as well which can be interesting!

You will feel it - just gotta be patient. Easier said than done I know!!! Smile

mousymouse · 25/09/2010 18:05

17 weeks with ds and 16 with dd.

smoggii · 25/09/2010 21:26

At my 20 week scan I asked the sonographer if it was normal I adn't felt anything yet she said that on 1st pregnancy some people don't notice anything until 22-24 weeks and that everything looked fine and baby very active so not to worry.

The very next day it was movements a go go. And I've been feeling it everyday since. I think maybe the sonographer pressing exactly where the baby was helped me pinpoint the flutters I may have already felt but not really noticed.

Congratulations

Miffster · 26/09/2010 10:09

19 weeks exactly ( am now almost 29 weeks with first baby)

thell · 26/09/2010 14:01

I felt a bubble-pop sensation at 17 weeks, when lying down. For a few weeks after that I could only really feel the movements when reclining, so that the full weight of the baby was pressing down on me, so I wouldn't be surprised if it got missed even if you could feel it! I'm sure I looked like a complete nutter, leaning into odd positions on public transport so that I could feel it.

So looking forward to that feeling again x

SoLongAsItsHealthy · 26/09/2010 15:29

18 weeks, but it didn't feel like a flutter at all, more of a little tap from within!

You'll know when it happens. Try not to worry, I felt it quite early but lots of people don't feel it for much longer. All normal.

islandbaby · 26/09/2010 18:27

I felt the first fluttery movements inside at 16 weeks. It wasn't until about 21 weeks that I could feel something like a kick, then at about 24 weeks that my OH could feel it on the outside. Now, at 30 weeks i can watch my stomach and see definite hands/feet/head traversing across the skin. It's really freaky!

StrangewaysHereICome · 26/09/2010 19:39

17 weeks with my first and second and 15 weeks with this one.

If you have an anterior (I think) placenta then that can cushion the movement and make it harder to feel. Don't worry you will feel it soon.

Congrats to you about the little one first of all!

I felt my one move at 21 weeks - this is in fact how I found out I was expecting! I went out the night before and drank too much, and when I was recovering I felt these little movements going on. "Wait a sec - this isn't just a hangover.." I thought! A fantastic little surprise for me.

I reckon I felt them a few weeks prior, but I wasn't looking for it, so put it out of my mind. Everyone's different, Darl - don't fret it! x
