Ok I know this is a bit trivial but I don't want my dressing gown as I remember it being really hot anyway. I also remember the hospital using baby shampoo etc or did I bring it with me and they use mine? I know this sounds silly but I'm trying to cut bk on the unnecessary as I remember lugging all this useless stuff around last time. What have u packed? X

I am in the same situation I think. I have packed mine, have put no baby shampoo in as I am pretty sure they had it last time, but in saying that I am sure they didn't use anything other than water anyway.

I ahve packed a dressing gown as DD was a summer baby so was warm, but this is due end of october so not sure how warm it will be.

Also packed towels, pj's, leggings and top for coming home.
Maternity pads, knickers, nursing bras, breast pads, socks, toilets essentials, puzzle book too.

For baby have packed 3 sleepsuits, 3 vests, coming home coat, blanket, muslin squares, nappies, cotton wool, teddy to put at the bottom of his cot.

Oh and a laundry bag for dirties.
I am sure I have more than that, but can't get my brain to work very well. If there is anything you think I will not need tell me, as I will remove it.

Oh hat and scratch mitts are in there too.

FindingMyMojo · 23/09/2010 16:16

I packed loads - in the end all I really wanted/need was endless cold grapes (what I ate during long slow labour), shower stuff, clean PJ's and clothes to wear home & clothes for baby to wear home.

I don't recall even dressing DD until we went to leave - just kept her in nappy & swaddled. It's so warm in the hospital/birth centre.

Why would you need baby shampoo? They didn't even wash DD - just wiped her clean & they recommended I didn't wash her for a few days after I got home either. We never used anything to wash DD as a baby apart from water (though she didn't have much hair)

Last time I took loads and didn't use most of it.

This time I'll be going for the necessary pads and change of PJ's for me, two lots of baby grows, nappies and food as hopital food is gross. And very basic toiletries. A plastic bag for nasty clothes you want DH to take home and chuck out is always useful too.

IMO hospitals are even hotter in the winter than the summer as the crank up the heating and frown upon the opening of windows.

To be honest if I can be out of there 6 hours after the birth I'll be laughing, otherwise DH can bring in things we need including warm clothes for me and newbie when we get to leave.

Mobile phone charger! I'm on the Maternity ward and the amount of Mums that run out of power from a zillion texts Smile

umm apart from what has been mentioned baby nail clippers is always requested too.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/09/2010 18:33

Bring a pen as well. Loads of people don't have one and you need one if only for filling out menu cards.

nunnie · 23/09/2010 18:38

Never got a menu card, never got fed apart from self service breakfast.
Have pen for my puzzle book though, so if I get a menu I can use it for that too :)
