Im 19 weeks preganant and I've got the beginning of cystitis and the pharmasist says I can't take any over the counter medecines.

Has anyone lese been to the doctors with this and was anythign prescribed anything or should I just start buying cranberry juice in bulk?

You NEEEEED to see your GP and get some ABs, as urine infections in pregnancy can be dangerous. This is why when you see your MW, she'll dip your urine and will ask for Abs for you if your urine indicates an infection, even if you don't have symptoms. Get thee to the doc! Hope you're ok v soon - I had a really awful water infection and it took 2 lots of ABs to shift it. I was demented with it but it went in the end.

Agree, get to the Doctors.
But in the meantime, drink a pint of cranberry juice, it really works on UTIs.

But even better than drinking the juice is the tablets (which I get from Holland & Barratt). You get more cranberry into yourself more efficiently without taking in lots of sugar/artificial sweetener at the same time, brilliant for cystitis emergencies. They are safe to take during pregnancy (safer than ABs anyway). Though if you've left it really late cranberry probably won't sort it out.

I have just finished a course of antibiotics for a UTI, which don't look like they have worked, so am waiting for lab results of this test, to see what antibiotics and strength they advise.

I may have had mine for months, I put all my symptoms down to general pregnancy, pain in side, lower back pain, weeing lots (no burning though, that would have alerted me I think).

I was told by midwife, to drink cranberry juice, plenty of fluids, and make sure I urinate fully as and when.

I had a terrible urine infection a few weeks ago and left it for longer than I should have.

Doctor told me off (in a nice way!) and said that it could be very dangerous for unborn baby. I'm allergic to antibiotics so he prescribed penicillin and it was gone the next day.
I used to get cystitis a lot when I was younger and never found the over the counter remedies worked as all they do is reduce the acidity of your urine so it doesn't sting any more.

By all means drink cranberry juice though as it does help!

Hops you feel better soon x
