parentcraft classes.

has anyone been to these and what did they think.

The midwife said it will be 4 classes from 32 weeks.I will be going with daughter as her partner cant get time off work.
She said will have a tour of the labour wards etc,see a new mum bath a baby etc.

Did you find it intresting,and what sort of questions were asked.Thanks..

I did these a few years ago with my first baby. They were quite good, the tour of labour wards, delivery rooms etc was helpful, the baby first aid section was brillant. Obviously it was very pro breast feeding and a bit high handed regarding pain relief during the labour eg the evil of pethedine etc but overall I would recommend them.

I wasn't a fan. The tour was useful but the classes were a bit dull. Also they were very much "It's all up to you, you can choose what you want to do, birth balls, water birth, home-from-home room" etc and the reality was very very different (tbh I think it contributed a fair bit to my total shock of how I was handled during labour).

I found the Choices in Childbirth group I went to second time round much much better (and it was free with tea & cake ). If you're near Bradford let me know and I'll give you the link.

I have just completed mine and found them to be very informative and reassuring. Think it all depends on the person. My mum came along with me and even she learnt a thing or two. The midwife taking the class and the physio were very good at explaining what they do and why and the exercises they both gave have helped my anxiety a lot. I was glad I went, hope it is of value to you both.
