3D/4D scans anyone had one?

Am 21 weeks pregnant with DB no2. Had our anomoly scan last week, we very nicely asked the sonographer if she could tell us the sex? She was very sarcastic and said it depended on baby! At the end of the scan I asked her if she could tell and she said no you will have ot wait. She seemed to fly through our scan (ours was 20 mins) compared to my friends who had a scan 2 days earlier at same hospital she was in for an hour.

Anyway DP and I are desperate to know the sex of this baby. Not that we are in the slightest way bothered but we are stumped for names. I know there are people who will say we are crazy for wanting to know and we should keep it a surprise but I'm far far too impatient.

The thing is we are due to move areas and I don't know if I will be scanned again in the new area (wouldn't think so) we are thinking about a private 3D scan but these are £195 although i would love to see the moving images of baby in the womb. DP says we can go for one if they can gaurantee the sex.

Anyone had any experience of the scans? I feel a bit bad asking as theres nore important things with unborn babies but to us it's a big deal

20 minutes!!! Wow that's long compared with the ones I had with DS's - both about 10-15 minutes MAX!

I was scanned again at 20 something weeks when I moved from London to Dorset

DP hasn't quite got his head screwed on though as if the baby is in the wrong position you will NOT be able to see the sex so they cannot gaurantee it.

cant you just think of two names - much cheaper

fwiw I think those 3d scans are weird - but am old-fashioned

But I was thinking if you are paying £195 for it surely they could rescan you or jiggle the babe about a bit like they do when they can't see the heart. Says on the blurb about the scanning place that if you don't want to know the sex you shouldn't go for a scan as they are incredibly detailed and it will be fairlu obvious.

Think we'll wait till we have moved then see how we feel.

sweetkitty, we had a 4d scan at 27ish weeks, it was fab & we have a 1/2 hour dvd of footage of ds in my tum, which i think is amazing! we actually didn't find out the sex, i was dying to know, but dh really really wanted it to be a surprise, so it was. they scanned mostly on the face - which is what they do on 4d anyway, afaik. it's expensive, but pretty special i think.

doesnt it spoil it for when they are born though?

Hi SK,

I just had a 4D scan in London's Harley Street at the Birth Company. It was a birthday gift from DH and cost £200.
I was really looking fwd to the scan and as we were already told the sex we were hoping to confirm it which they did, however, baby was in the worst possible breech position and fast asleep. He would not be moved! I actually felt quite guilty in the end and a tad selfish if i can openly admit that. I did get some pics, only one of which is clear and a DVD which thankfully shows a few glimpses of his face when he has moved his arms from time to time.
I had to pay the full fee but was told i'd receive a 50% discount should I want to go back in a few weeks time. I hope that helps, just be prepared that there is a possibility that you won't see much. It all depends on your baby. Needless to say on the way home felt him move around in all his usual gymnast fashion!

Have a search of msgs, I posted the same topic about 2-3 weeks ago, haven't time for the link.

Good Luck x

roosmum · 05/09/2005 16:15

nah enid, it's just a very cool thing you can keep forever...& one day show to your LO.
having the scan doesn't spoil anything, it adds to the excitement imo.

sweetkitty · 05/09/2005 16:23

We knew DD was a girl and it never took anything away for the excitement of meeting her.

we also had a 3d/4d scan with dd..an amazing experience. We already knew her sex but wanted this scan at 29 weeks so we could see what it was like. It was £195 and well worth it omo.
It didn't spoil the surprise of the birth at all and sounds mad/stupid but dd looks exactly like the 3d scan pix once she was born! Looking at the scan pixs it was as though we had been looking at her face to face iykwim..!!!

Redtartanlass · 12/09/2005 12:40

We had the scan, it's our 3rd pregnancy and the best thing we ever did. It is absolutely amazing, we've got pictures of her smiling, sucking her hand, and even yawning. I have emailed them to friends who just can not believe how good the4 pics are. She looks just like her brother, it's absolutely amazing.

We had ours in Cirencester and would recomend it to anyone. If you are interested I can email you the pics and the link to their website.
