I'm going for a Nuchal scan on Wednesday - anyone else been for one? What are your thoughts? I feel a bit apprehensive about it all..

Is that where they measure the fold at the back of your baby's neck? If so i had one routinely as part of my second scan w both my boys, it was standard hospital policy. It was just another measurement they took and didn't need any special prodding or poking.

Is yours routine or have you been referred for a specific reason?

I paid for one with our local private hospital at 12 weeks as the NHS here doesn't check for these things until much later on in the pregnancy. It ended up being my first scan due to my NHS dating scan date coming through later than expected. The sonographer was really nice, and they spent lots of time with us, showing us different angles, listening to the heartbeat and explaining the results. I ended up with a risk score lower than the one based on just my age, which is reassuring. My NHS scan was very different, very quick in and out, yes it's a baby off you go, which was a little disappointing but I guess they have to fit a lot more people in. The photos from the private scan were much clearer, and they gave us a USB stick with them on too which was good for emailing to my mum who lives miles away.
It was a bit nerve wracking before hand, but they were very nice about it and explained everything, and we'd already decided we wanted to know about anything that may be wrong. (That's all a bit long, isn't it, sorry!)

Actually, my mistake it was at the first scan.

I had one when pregnant with ds as was quite oldGrinHad to pay for it, but was money well spent, the consultant was most reassuring, and I felt very serene afterwards, and actually felt quite serene and able to cope no matter what the outcome.

I had one at 11 weeks, privately. As an older mum my risk was high 1:72 but after the scan and they did a couple of blood tests, it can back 1:5648. The best money every spent.

I had my first scan today which do this routinely. Just an extra measurement that they check, combined with my blood results which ill hear bk from in a week if theres a prob. My results were 1.1mm which are normal she said.
