This is my second pregnancy. I'm 18+ weeks pregnant, and a couple of weeks ago I am sure I felt movement most days, but now nothing. There's a fair bit of tummy for baby to kick through, but I'm starting to get a bit worried. My m/w is away for a couple of weeks. Do you think it would be ok to go to the GP or would they tell me off for wasting their time?

Hiya, you could always ring the maternity ward/unit if you are worried. They will be used to that kind of concern and know what to do. Try not to worry, I think it's still early to be feeling lots of movement - although someone correct me if I'm wrong!? I'm sure with my second it was 20 weeks if not later that I felt regular movent....

Hi secondtimemum. I'm 18+4 with my first at the moment, and haven't felt any movement yet (possibly an odd rumble a couple of times, but can't be sure). My midwife said that it's more often around 20 weeks with a first pregnancy.

For a second pregnancy, although the feeling can be earlier, and you're more accustomed as to what to look out for, it isn't always the case, particularly as the placenta could be anterior, thus blocking some of the feeling that you might othewise get.

If you're really worried then I'm sure you could give your surgery a call, and see if they'll have a listen with a doppler to put your mind at rest. It would be quite insensitive of them if they considered this to be a waste of time.

You're welcome to join us on the due in Feb ante-natal thread too if you want - we're a friendly bunch!

I felt dd2 quite early but then didn't seem to feel her much and really it was around 22 weeks by the time I was feeling her every day.

I did too so I wouldn't worry, I think he changed position and I do have a little more flab on my tum than last time. Now I'm nearly 23 weeks I feel him all the time!

ZoeC · 05/09/2005 13:36

oh yes forgot that, I had an anterior placenta.

hi I'm 21+4 with number 2, I felt flutterings at about 13-14 weeks then all went quiet for a few weeks, last weekend I didn't feel anything for ages was starting to get worried but the little darling has started kicking for Scotland now!

I think these little beanies do it just to worry us.

Rachey1969 · 05/09/2005 13:51

If you are worried, do get the midwife to reassure you with the doppler, although she might also a bit of trouble if it's very low or insulated which is why I would never get one myself - scare you to death!

princesspeahead · 05/09/2005 14:04

I'm on my 4th preg and at 20 weeks am only just beginning to feel regular movement. in my others it varied between 16 and 18 weeks.
apparently I have the placenta at the front, which insulates the movements, and means that the kicks I do feel are usually low down and to the side.
I'm sure you are fine, but if you are worried turn up at your gp's surgery and ask if they can have a listen.

Slight thread hijack - Princesspea, I'm 22 weeks pregnant with my 4th. Come and join us on the due in January 2006 thread (in antenatal groups).

Well, my mind has partly been set at rest, and so I guess I;ll wait till my next m/w appt in a couple of weeks time. Hopefully I will feel something more substantial by then!
Thanks for the suggestion of Feb board Tabs. Unfortunately I don't get internet access too often, but I will try and drop in, assuming all goes well
