Hi

Am due with 2nd on 10th September and am finding this heat unbearable. As I've only got 2 weeks until I'm offically 'term' can anyone suggest any good ways to bring on labour. Last time I had to be induced, which was fine, but I can't face those extra 2 weeks of preg this time, not with a 2 year old to look after - am constantly exhausted.

I tried raspberry leaf tea last time and it did nothing. Sex is obviously an option if I can summon up the energy, and I don't like curry!!

In my opinion, nothing works, sex might help but if he/she wants to stay in - he/she will. Would the heat be any more bearable with a newborn and a 2 year old? For me it is much simplier to let nature take its course and sit with feet up and eat ice-cubes. We are both on the last stretch now so enjoy the little bit of peace you have for the next 5 weeks. Also i hear its going to cool down by Thursday, so its not forever. P.S. No one remind me of this message when I'm moaning tomorrow about the heat, thankyou.

I also recommend sitting with your feet in a bowl of cold water (child's paddling pool also works well) - very helpful. Especially if you do it just before you go to bed, keeps you cool for long enough to get you to sleep....

agree with bekki, nothing works re bringing on labour, I speak from bitter experience (2ce!)

Another good way to cool down is to run your wrists under the cold tap, palms up for a few minutes. It's something to do with the veins being so close to the surface that cools the blood.....well at least I think it is.

I'm very proud to say I made the Mumsnet homepage with this tip, even showing DH who really didn't get the significance of it.......Fame at last!

A really nice thing is a rose petal facial spray. It gives instant relief so is great to have in your bag. It is quite expensive but worth it in this heat, it is also great during labour as smells really refreshing. I'm not sure where you can get it maybe in the bigger boots where they have the massage places.

you can get a spray called magicool - I found it brilliant when very pregnant and still working in a stuffy hot classroom - spray that on my face and back of my neck - wonderful.

I've also got into drinking lime sodas (lime cordial and soda water over masses of ice and a mint leaf or two) - makes me feel like I'm on holiday somewhere where it is meant to be hot and therefore the heat doesn't bother me so much!bizarre, I know.

obviously a Pina Colada would have the same effect but the rum consumption might not be great for the baby....
