They have mild fevers, sore throats and one is now being sick this morning. The other one is playing.

The scan is a cardiac + anomaly scan because some things showed up on the 12 week scan plus a 1 in 5 risk of down's. I've been really anxious.

Would you move the scan to next week?

Leave toddlers at home with DH and go by yourself

Take them with you (DH's preferred but I think a no no)?

I wouldn't take them personally. Is there no one you can ask to babysit? If not then is there a friend who could go with you to the scan? Think it's best if you have someone with you, even if it's not DH. If that's not do-able either then I would probably postpone scan thought that would be a last resort really.

though not thought

Don't take them with you. It will only cause more stress if they are sick in the waiting room, and putting other pregnant women at risk of illness.

Good luck.

I would leave them at home and take someone with you, either DH if you can get a babysitter OR a friend with you.

RememberToPlaywiththeKids · 20/09/2010 09:49

I think DH would rather I postponed than went without him. Which i can understand but would really like to get it done. I haven't got any friends who could come with me but I think I would rather go on my own than postpone.

This could end up in an argument with DH couldn't it.....

It's not your fault though is it, that the children are sick. If you postpone, it could be weeks before you get another appointment, by which time someone else could be ill. And the sooner the scan picks up any problems, or hopefully puts your mind at rest, the better.

Yes, they might have a cancellation - they did when I had to move my 20 week app and I only had to move it from the Friday to the Monday. Hope all goes well for you.

lucy101 · 20/09/2010 13:03

I wouldn't cancel as if they do find anything wrong (which they probably won't) then you need as much time to deal with it, get second opinions etc. I really think you need to leave the children at home (they shouldn't be around other pregnant women) and find a babysitter and take DH or (not so good) take someone else or go alone.

RememberToPlaywiththeKids · 20/09/2010 21:35

Well DD is definitely not going to be well enough to go to nursery tomorrow. I've tried 2 people to sit with her but no-one can help so DH has said he will stay at home with her.

So, I'll be going on my own .

I so hope it goes ok.

They only do these scans on tuesdays apparently.... so to postpone would mean another week.

Thank you Loopy x

Well I went to the scan by myself and they found a problem with the heart - a ventricular septal defect (hole in the heart) with enlargement of the aorta, so this makes it 95% certain that baby has Down's syndrome.

I had a nasty shock because why they were muttering to each other about it, it sounded like there was something majorly wrong that was incompatible with life (which I'd been afraid of) and my heart was in my Boots and I thought that I was going to pass out.

My friends and family have been marvellous.

Thinking of you. That must have been awful being by yourself. Hugs.

MollysChambers · 22/09/2010 09:50

Sorry to hear that. You were very brave going by yourself. Hope you get all the support you need.
