Does anyone know if an eptopic pregnancy would show up on a pregnancy test? As the beginning of july i had the implant fitted and had sex a few days later, took morning afterpill approx 30hrs after but i was told not too have sex till 7days after having implant as im very fertile, fell pregnant on the pill, twice. I keep feeling pregnant but have had 3 negitives tests & i have had some sort of periods as reduced when had implant. Does anyone know what this can be?

Hi I had a suspected ectopic pregnancy I believe they still show up on a pg test because after a positive result I was having great amounts of abdominal pain and when my bloods were taken daily they were only rising by about 10. But they were at a level to show a positive result just were not rising after 4weeks like they should my doctor was very certain about it being a ectopic as I was signed in for a termination when they thought they would scan one last time and there he was in my uterus Grin.

But as the doctors were so certain it was ectopic I imagine it is common for them to show up on pg test. I think what you are describing is quite common with the implant maybe speak to your doctor and ask him. I always feel pg on the pill I feint and get morning sickness too.

i had to stay in hospital as i got told there was a chance my pregnancy was eptopic and i had 4 positive pregnancy tests so i think they do yeh.

Ectopics show on PG tests. You need a scan to confirm its ectopic. If you are repeatedly testing negative you are probably not pregnant. Its common for periods to be disrupted by implant.

Hi Ladies

im just back from the docs, with a positive pg test, i had severe abdominal pain on fri and a few niggling pains since, have had quite a bit of brown spotting the last fortnight, doc has said there is good chance it is eptopic and has booked me into early pregnancy clinic tomorrow for scan to confirm, so it must still show on a pg test. Im a bit anxious too cuz im meant to go to america this thurs and my doc has advised me i shouldnt fly no matter what result i get tomorrow which means i cant get insurance. if my pregnancy is destined to continue i dunno what the hell im meant to tell ppl if i decide not to travel, im only about 4-6 weeks pregnant, which is far to early to announce anything. Ladies would you go ahead and travel anyways?

serendipity16 · 20/09/2010 16:12

Valz - No i wouldn't travel.
A scan isn't always conclusive & it may take a few days of blood tests & repeat scans to find out if its ectopic or not. The last thing you want is to be abroad if god forbid it was ectopic.

I had an ectopic in Dec & the whole thing went on for about 3 weeks. Scans, blood tests, D&C (they thought it was a miscarriage) & more bloods & scans afterwards & it ended with me going to a&e in horrendous pain at 12.30am 3 days before xmas & finally being diagnosed with an ecoptic pregnancy the next morning.

I agree with serendipity I was in hospital for about 3 weeks having blood tests everyday and scans every other. They were about to take me up after the third week as there had still been no significant increase and no egg sack on scan when we saw him.

Fingers crossed for you but if they don't see anything on the scan which at 4-6weeks is quite likely you will probably be admitted. I am very sorry I remember how hard that time was I hope you get answers as soon as possible Smile. Will your insurance give you money back for your tickets because you have medical reasons not to go?

valz · 20/09/2010 21:47

i dont even have insurance yet, so im unsure if the airline policy would be to waiver fee for transferrin ticket dates on medical terms. must look into it, thanks for the replaies ladies, see what way things go tomorrow.

Valz, just to say if the worst comes to the worst and your pregnancy is ectopic, you'll find lots of support and advice at www.ectopic.org.uk

I had one in Feb and the support there was invaluable.

Robbie09 I had the implant for 4 years (best method of contraception imo) and its major drawbacks is what it does to your period. I had one year of normal periods, 2 years of extended periods (3 week light bleeding - I went to the doctor though after 2 years and he gave me the pill to sort out my periods and they became regular again after one month), had a few more months of light but regular periods and then a full year without any periods what so ever. Bliss!! So chances are your light period was just the implant doing its business.

When we decided to ttc I was concerned the implant might have messed my hormones up something rotten but I conceived within 2 months and the only bad point is I'd forgotten what a REAL period was like and more importantly what REAL pms was like.

robbie09 · 21/09/2010 08:44

1catherine1- thanks for your info it helps abit, i knew with the implant my periods would change, im just worried as i feel pregnant, i have a 9mnth gap between my babies their 14mnths & 5mnths. Ive done 3 pg tests though and all negitive, booked in with gp next week just to set my mind a rest & so i know why im feeling like this
