7 weeks pregnant and can hear my heart palpitations

Hiya, I am pregnant with my second one - 7 weeks now. Have been suffering from severe palpitations. Can hear my heart all the time and can't sleep easily ... anyone has suffered this in first trimester? Any suggestions how to deal with it?

I had high blood pressure few days before my first one was born and had to be under go c-section.

Is this something I should worry about? I have first doctors appointment next week - should I see her early? Many thanks for any advice and inputs..

I think you should see your GP earlier.

One of the most common causes of this is stress and worry, and in turn this leads to the palpitations and then you worrying about them - very hard to break the cycle. Are you breathless, having trouble with physical exertion? Or is it just at nighttime?

But speak to your GP first to hopefully rule out any physical cause.

If he rules out a physical cause, you can look at relaxation techniques to help deal with the palpitations.

Hiya, thanks for the reply, I will try get an apppointmet asap. I do tend to go out of breath if I run a bit or climb 4~6 flights of stairs.. again I havent excercised in few months and not in my best shape! :)

I had this during my pregnancy with DS - but knew I was extremely stressed and anxious, however, I saw GP who offered ECG to rule out any underlying problems - this showed that I had no unusual heartbeat and really helped put my mind at rest.

The GP also listened to my heart whilst it did this and reassured me that it was completely fine - I just needed to find some way to relax.

I found that it seemed worse at night, when there was nothing else to listen to and your mind ran away with you - I usually sat up and read a book, or watched a funny film to take my mind off it and to calm down.

As belgo said, go to your GP sooner rather than later to hopefully rule out a physical cause, then work from there.

I have had this all the way through. Its better to get checked out. I had other symptoms as well and had an ECG but all was fine. They said its common in pg but they need to check its nothing sinister. My pulse has been over 100 all the way through and since being checked out no one is bothered.

If this is at all reassuring, the first sign I had that I was pregnant was that quite often it would feel as if my heart, or a major vessel leading to it, had made a sudden movement. Like germi, it seemed worse at night. I was initially convinced something was wrong, but my blood pressure is fine and the palpitations stopped by the time I was 12 weeks pregnant.

Re whether it was because of unfitness, I am asthmatic and have a much bigger tum now at nearly 20 weeks, have done no exercise for 3 months because of severe morning sickness, and they haven't returned, so they may just disappear for you.

Most people get out of breath if they go up that many flights of stairs.

But get it checked out anyway!

Thanks everyone, popped into doctors two days back. My blood pressure and pulse is normal, asked me to get blood tests done for
Thyroid and electrolytes, I am feeling much better now. May be I was stressed out without knowing about it. I am trying take it easy now, the world can wait! :)
