Hi Ladies,

Hope those near the top of the list are nearing or enjoying their maternity leave. I saved 4 weeks holiday and so have already been glued to the sofa for a week. Bliss.
Don't think I could have managed anymore 13 hour mad shifts and I was starting to feel a bit vunerable, nearly got booted in the bump by a rather distressed labouring patient...suppose that's transition for you!

Gilda - I'm with you all the way...homebirth for me on dry land, with a soak in the bath along the way. A waterbirth has never really appealed to me, but the idea of labouring in my own bath is a different matter. The only preparation I am going to make for a homebirth is to buy a couple of cheap shower curtains to cover the bed or surface I deliver on and buy some nice snacks and biscuits for the midwives.

Waves to all, and a promise to catch up more now I am a lady of leisure!

And to Louise - much love to you. Sending you strength and quick conception vibes x

Hi all.Just want to make sure its ok i keep posting on here as don t know where i fit in at the moment. Can t go back to the ttc sites.Posted on the bereavement site but no one really answers me so feel a bit neglected there!!!!

Just don t want to come on here rambling and depressing all.Looked on the SANDS site [don t know if i want to post on there though].Need you all to tell me if i m casting doom and gloom on you all.

4 weeks today since our gorgeous Georgie was born, went for a walk at a local beauty spot where we had laid flowers 3 weeks ago.Can t believe its a month and i still feel like dying. On one hand seems like forever ago on the other hand i feel i ve been living this nightmare forever. This is so horrible i wouldn t wish this on my worst enemy.Definately got my period my mum thinks this is good as it gives my body a chance to heal and my DH is excited to ttc again!!! in 5 days time.

I just want Georgie , but accept thats never going to happen. My life is so empty without her, it has become a circle of hospital and counselling appts again and i thought all that had ended.

Hope everyones well. Please let me know if i m depressing anyone xx

Muser · 07/11/2010 21:25

Can't speak for everyone else louise but I want you to post here for as long as you want to. You're one of us.

It is sad reading your posts, but that's because what happened is very sad. Shouldn't stop you posting. I do worry that we might make it a bit more difficult for you. Maybe you could give SANDS a try as well? You might find you can say stuff there that's harder to say here.

But you definitely shouldn't feel you have to stop posting here. We're all in this together.

Alba I hope you're feeling better now.

randomimposter · 07/11/2010 22:10

louise I'm not a "member" here, just get signed in as a guest every now and then, but I think you should still post as and when and what you need to. It's important that people who "know" you can support you at this most difficult time.

BUT would also like to say there's a lovely and supportive and small and intimate 40+ TTC thread; inevitably we've all had hard times, and are empathetic to newcomers. If you feel ready please feel you can pop in and see us.

randomimposter · 07/11/2010 22:11

big squeeze for the lovely Alba xx

Gi1da · 08/11/2010 09:12

Louise - you are one of us! We all came together because we have experienced loss and wish to have a child - nothing in that has changed. Some of our journeys are more difficult than others, but we all share a common goal. That goes for you to Jolls.

Muser thanks for the gym ball tip - got mine from Argos yesterday. And will be useful for pilates in the future! Bonus! Smile

Big thanks to Loopsy, Alba and Malteser on home birth advice. Really helpful, I'm feeling a lot more positive that I can do this (though to be sure there will be wobbles along the way!). Will also dust off the I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue tapes for comic relief. Had thought about getting a Sex & The City box set but then again I think that would drive DH out of the house for good.

Buffs for some reason I always want to call them Higgs Bosuns. No idea why, something must have short circuited in my head. Hmm

Ivy congrats on the move and how was the Towers of Midnight? I've not read any of the series - thought I'd leave it for maternity leave - getting quite excited about it - should keep me going for a while!

Wishing all a Monday far less dreary than the weather!

PS - yet another novice question - I've also bought a sling and had planned on wearing baba. If that's ok, why is there such a hoo-haa about prams having to be flat based for newborns - a sling position isn't flat?

Unbuffy · 08/11/2010 10:20

Seconding what everyone has been saying to Louise, you have been a part of this thread for a long time and we all share a part of your pain in some small way. Yes, it is sad reading your posts, but if you didn't post i think we'd all start to worry that you are not all right. I agree with Muser that I worry that OUR posts might make things harder for you, and it might be hard for you to read about what we are going through and it all seeming so trivial. On a thoroughly selfish plus side, I will say that your story HAS made some concerns seem trivial and really put some perspective onto it all. I hope that is not a horribly offensive thing to say! Do stick around if it is of any help to you at all, and don't worry about us. xx

Also Jollsy always lovely to hear from you.

Gilda WHY do you have sub-atomic particals in your tummy/on your mind?? or is it something to do with sailors...? Are you another Clue-r? I am a bit of a mad Humph fan, dh is very forgiving

My sil gave birth yesterday to a lovely little girl, am very jealous as it was all very easy and quick and we won't meet her until after our own d-day (don't fancy driving 5 hours to a hospital for a visit atm!!)

clareanna · 08/11/2010 12:49

Will name check properly later (promise) but wanted to pop on and answer gi1da re slings.
They have recently been causing some controversy in the USA for that reason, and the consumer product safety commission in USA and canada recently recalled some types (infantino) after links to suffocation cases. They have also advised against their use in babies under 4 months, premature, or that have colds. This is because the sling keeps the baby I'm a curled position that bends the head to the chest which may restrict the airflow or cause the fabric to press against the babies face. Look for a sling that keeps the baby upright. Or one that means your baby's face is visible at all times and position that baby so it's close enough to kiss. Check out which.co.uk guides for more info.
I know a bit about this due to the job I do! I dnt mean it to put you off slings- they are great and I plan to use mine lots, but it's worth practicing them with a teddy beat before baby arrives so you're a pro at tying the and positioning baby well. I have an upright one and will also be getting a lifftsling which supports your back .

louisesh · 08/11/2010 13:16

Thanks very much everyone.I like to read your stories. Will pop in to "your" site JOLLS X

Hope everyones ok nice to hear how everyones getting on.Sometimes think i ll have to have my virtual children through you lot.Period heavy here suppose thats a good sign that, physically, i m recovering.DH back at work today but on AL tomorrow have managed ok on my own doesn t make any difference to me whos around.

Much love to all XXX

AlbaDeTamble · 08/11/2010 13:36

Hi all,
Quick lunchtime post... feeling much better today, got a very very early night last night and work hasn't been too bad so far this morning. I'm working from home, so after reminder from Muser, I have borrowed an idea from Sam and I'm sitting on my old gym ball, incredibly comfortable! Off to see lovely midwife shortly (hence working from home) so hopefully she'll help me feel better too.

Hello Jolls, good to see you. I have my fingers crossed you get your healthy sticky bean really soon now.

Louise, echoing what everyone else has said, of course you should be able to stay here and post away, your need for a good old rant is greatest of all of us, and I know how cathartic it is to get it out. As others have said, I just hope you don't find our wittering about more trivial concerns upsetting or offensive. I also agree with Jollster, the 40+ conception thread that she gave you the link for is fantastic, a really lovely little group and hugely supportive.

Hmmm, Branston Pickles, I used to call them that, but the Higgs Bosons has made me laugh, might be changing what I call them from now on!! They're not fun with a big solid baby head up top though, ouch ouch! Yoga tomorrow night, will pay attention to all the positions that are good for turning a breech, haven't been taking notes properly thus far as I thought I was fine...

Gilda was it you starting the natal hypnotherapy? I downloaded and listened to the homebirth one for the first time yesterday afternoon (granny was kindly babysitting) -- sadly no idea how cheesy or otherwise it is, I heard 'now, with your eyes comfortably closed, focus on your breathing', then 1,2,3,4,5 fully awake! Does it still work if you sleep though it??

Re slings: I swore by my baby bjorn last time, and just got it back from the people we gave it to after DS grew out of it. The stretchy fabric ones do look fab and I was considering one of those too, but thinking twice after the warnings - are the Moby type ones ok? Presumably they are if baby upright? We used to have a hammock type sling, I think those are the worst risk, aren't they? DS loved it, but won't be using one again...
Have no idea why slings ok but prams have to be flat -- but anecdotally, DS lived in a sling and rarely went in the pram, and he was an early walker and doesn't appear to have any ill effects, hence I'll happily do the same again.

Unbuffy no idea on imminent labour symptoms, I was induced 2 weeks overcooked with DS...

I'm getting all excited by all the homebirth talk, but trying to remind myself if this boy doesn't turn it'll be a planned section instead... makes all the yoga and hypno and so on seem like such a waste of time, though I'm sure the relaxation part must help a lot.... I'd better start getting my head around the idea.

Must run

Unbuffy · 08/11/2010 14:00

Alba have you looked at spinning babies website? They seem to have some good things there - i looked just in case as dd was breech and didn't fancy another one! There is a position where you're kneeling on the sofa with your hands on the floor or something like, so you're upside down and confuse baby! I remember the ouches of being headbutted in the ribs, twas not fun, especially when the mw did not beleive me and kept telling me it was a bottom (bums don't usually have faces... there are of course exceptions...) There is also a homeopathic thing that my mum told me about but i'm afraid i've forgotten what it's called (useless ain't i) and it depends whether you like homeopathy. Or you could try crawling around scrubbing the floor? (although that did not work for me!)

Also did some hypno/relaxation during me getaway last week (la la la). Twas very embarrassing. Lay on big cushion, several other relaxing people in the room, stomach goes 'BBBRRRRPPP' at every pause. So you get 'you are feeling very CAAAAALM (bbrrrrppp), you are CONFIDENT (brrrrrrp) you are IN CONTROL (BBBBRRRRpppp squelch)'. Needless to say could NOT relax and in fact kept wanting to giggle all the time. So cheering up but not calming... felt v sorry for all the rest attending! Does anyone else have the chatty tummy thang or is it just me?!

Re slings i think the whole pram/lying flat thing is basically so baby is in a straight line wherever it is - ie not bunched up/bent in the middle as in buggies that do not lie flat but have an angle in. I love my sling, it is a weird thing like a cross between a soft job and a babybjorn type thing - it is all fabric but has clips and straps so no faffing with rings/knots etc. I used it all the time with dd and suspect i will again soon! It's called a pikkolo by a company called catbirdbaby (i've never heard of them either - interweb!), and holds baby upright against your tummy/chest but relaxed with no solid uncomfortable supports (and also goes in the washing machine). Have in fact just looked it out to wash etc hence info at fingertips... Not keen on the diagonal type slings personally as they can put funny strains on your back, also baby's head more likely to get squished imho. i did lots of looking into it before dd was born, can't really remember all that much of it now though I'm sorry to say. Hope another suggestion helps though!!

HappyGirl1 · 08/11/2010 14:10

Hi Everyone,

Louise just want to echo the other comments, it's lovely to have you here and I hope in some small way we can help you even if it's just to listen. Thinking of you all the time. Definitely positive news you have your period as at least then you are in the ttc phase again.. now that's nowhere near going to make the pain go away but hopefully the hope of potentially being pregnant again will help a little. I know for me when we were ttc after MC (obv nowhere near as bad as the loss of your Georgie), I found a little solice when we were ttc again as it gave me some hope which I craved.

Unbuffy to me the complete NON expert in all things labour it sounds like you have symptoms of pending labour! I've been reading non stop about it since my funny few days last week but in the last 3-4 days have had no symptoms at all except some BH. So now I think I'm ages away yet. I know it's all quite silly but I'd kind of got it in my head I'd be a week or two early but now think it could be Christmas. We'll see I guess. I have a MW appt on Wed so we'll see if baby is even engaged then maybe.

Gilda well done you on your home birth - that sounds great! Do you finish up soon from work?

My last week in work here, then 4 weeks hol then Mat Leave starts. Friday can't come soon enough!

louisesh · 08/11/2010 14:23

Thanks Happygirl yes, it does give me a bit of hope to ttc for Georgies brother or sister. How lovely on the countdown to your mat leave, hope this week whizzs by!! XX

toomuchteaching · 08/11/2010 18:43

Louise just adding to the others and saying of course you should stay here if you find it helps... we're a team and you're still part of that. Hope you're doing ok today.

Am having a bit of an aaaaaaagh moment here. On the one hand I can't believe I only have 8 weeks to go, but on the other I still have six weeks of work, I'm so bloody knackered. I also can't believe I just read a thread about people already booking childcare places, I so need to get organised. My friend brought their bouncy chair round at the weekend and that's the only item we have. Must. Get. Sorted.

I too have bought the natal hypnotherapy cd and am just waiting to find a convenient time to listen, to be honest I'm trying to avoid my DH hearing it at the moment for fear he'll laugh his head off. But our only CD player is in the kitchen, not exactly ideal for relaxing.

And can I just say sciatica. Oh my gosh.

Sorry for the total lack of namechecking, I will try tomorrow I promise, I'm just so tired.

TMT xx

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 09/11/2010 09:57

Louise we are all here for you, our support will continue as long as you need.x

How goes it Unbuff???? Sounds like systems are all gearing up to go! I LOVE your branston pickles term. My that forever replace braxton hicks!

Happy shopping toomuchtouching :)

I hope your last week in the office goes quickly Happygirl I am struggling to be honest but we have all been ill with one bug or another since last Thurs. I am exhausted and have cancelled work today as I need a quiet day. I am sleeping but I wake up every time I roll over, I need a whole king size bed to myself, plus the morning sickness seems to have returned........I hate whinging but I feel quite sorry for myself!

Happy shopping toomuchtouching :)

On a good note I have made it to 21 weeks and over my last hurdle from DD2. Fingers crossed for my anomaly scan next week and then roll on 24, 28 etc weeks.....

Muser · 09/11/2010 10:00

Sympathies on the sickness returning Magic8, mine has never gone away (except for the weeks I was on medication for it). I thought last week it was maybe stopping, but sadly not. I am resigned to starting each morning by puking. Nice.

It's nice passing milestones though. I was so happy to get to 24 weeks on Sunday and see my NHS tracker tell me the baby is now viable. And today my What To Expect tracker has told me that the baby is the size of an aubergine. An aubergine!

Goodluckbear · 09/11/2010 10:14

Just wanted to say the same as everyone else - Louise, please keep posting here, we stick together.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

VivClicquot · 09/11/2010 10:27

Another one just popping by to send Louise a big squeeze and to say please do keep posting - I think you're doing brilliantly by the way. You sound so strong x

I'm doing okay. My paranoia that something has gone wrong keeps coming in waves, but I'm hoping that the stretching pains I've been having for the last couple of weeks are a good sign that he or she is alright in there. I have a midwife appointment next Friday so fingers crossed I'll be able to hear the heartbeat then.

Friday was also one year to the day that we lost Gracie, but apart from a few morning tears, I had a lovely day - DH and I went out for a long lunch and I had a cheeky glass of champagne to toast my special girl.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing okay. Very envious of all of you who are nearing the top of the list. Keep bouncing on those balls! xxxx

toomuchteaching · 09/11/2010 11:53

Hahaha magic16... I'm not sure what you're implying with toomuchtouching, my DH certainly wouldn't agree! Grin

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 09/11/2010 14:03

LOL!!!!!! Blush

HappyGirl1 · 09/11/2010 14:04

Hi ladies,

Viv glad you had a nice day marking Gracie. Those days are so tough but glad you made the most of it. Fingers crossed for your MW appointment on Friday.

Louise hope you are doing well

Muser how fab to be viable now! I loved the 24 week milestone, that's just great news

Magic8 hope you feel better soon you poor thing with everyone under the weather

How is everyone else doing?

I'm fine, baby having tons of dances in there today which is lovely. Had a few different contractions there I was like helloo what's that but nothing like last Thursday so i think it's just another little tease. Bit worried about how big my belly is now, will be glad to be measured tomorrow by MW. Don't mind how big it is once baby is okay, last time I was just above the curve so just want baby to be okay.

think I'll pass round some choccie biscuits to everyone!

louisesh · 09/11/2010 19:40

Hi all, thanks for your lovely messages XX

VIV i m so pleased for you, remember last year with Grace....very happy things are going well for you XXX

Yeh congrats MAGIC times flying by now.X

Hi GOODLUCKBEAR hope you re well ? X

Hi HAPPYGIRL

Thanks TOOMUCHTEACHING lovely words XX

Had an ok day here.Been back to the gym, put my ipod on LOUD and pounded out on the bike.Another first got quite upset as my sister had bought Georgie a swimming costume[as i m a water baby] and seeing the little pool where we would have taken her swimming was very hard.

Saw my MW today who has discharged me.Shes very glad we re trying ttc asap and says i m to rin g her as soon as i get a bfp. Also to ring epu and they re re-start me on preganyl injections and scan me every 2 weeks.Shes very optimistic for the future.

Very down last night insisting to my DH that i wouldn t ttc again would opt for adopting but my DH, bless, who has been a tower of strength and so positive for the both of us,reminded/convinced me that we owe it to Georgie and both of us ttc again to get/obtain our end goal of a brother or sister of Georgies and a child for us.

Bloody local register office sent me a letter asking why i hadn t registered my child?????Cue a very sarcastic me!!!! Firstly; they addressed me as ms not mrs then my surname is double barrelled and they only used the latter part, then as i informed them we had registered Georgie as a stillborn on the 11th oCT cue large apology from a very embarrassed admin clerk!!! Its rotten of me, i know, but surely these things should be checked!!!!

Also, got weighed at the gym today actually weigh less than pre Georgie weight which is another good thing shes done for me.God, i love her so very much XX

louisesh · 09/11/2010 19:42

Sorry HAPPYGIRL didn t mean to omit a XX for you!!!!!
