Hello Everyone,

Sorry not to name check just now, I'm feeling a bit sad and sorry here for one reason and another. I am sleeping quite badly and have been awake between 3am and 5am for nights and nights now. The trouble is that the alarm goes off at 6am so I fall into a deep sleep at 5am and get woken up. That in itself is making me low I think. I also went out for coffee with some mums from my ante-natal group but I came away feeling like I didn't really fit in terribly well and I just want to cry about it. It was ok and conversation was light-hearted and amiable. But...I don't know...I just felt that I was a different sort of person to everyone else. I'm really family orientated and somehow it felt like that was wrong. I'm explaining badly, please don't take offence (I will cry) but they are all first time mums (sorry if you are a first time mum) who are quite different to me I think. They were all talking about not wanting to get rid of their cleaners and not being any good at cooking or housework. I spent all day yesterday cleaning my house and ironing - and I quite liked it. I like caring for my family. I am wibbling on, I'll stop Sad. I'll post properly later when I've picked up a bit.

Aww Sam, sorry you're feeling a bit low, I must admit I haven't been to any ante-natal classes at all this time and am feeling a bit nervous about being isolated when baby arrives. I have some really good friends who are being brilliant at the moment, but the baby stage of their lives has passed and I'm nervous that we will drift apart.
I always think of these groups as more for first timers (I may be wrong) and not being able to put it in any better words, I think I know exactly what you mean.

Re sleeping, yes that's me too - I wake about 4 and don't get back to sleep again at all. The only way I'm coping is a half hour nap after lunch which sees me through, being as the others are at school. It's quite nice to have the house to myself for a bit, I only started Mat leave this week so I'm really trying to rest and take it easy.

It's horrible when you feel down and you feel you should be on top of the world - but I suppose it's only natural too, it may be baby number three but it's still going to change your life for the time being, and that's bound to make you feel unsettled.

Hope you feel a bit better later. Are your girls excited? xx

SamanthaB123 · 05/10/2010 14:43

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your message. We went to ante-natal classes because it is DH's first baby and he wanted to learn about it all. I was worried about being isolated as we haven't lived here very long and most of the people I know are work colleagues, so I thought it would help me to make friends. The mums I know from the girls school have much older children are all 'done' with babies. It doesn't seem to be working very well though. I just started maternity leave this week too. We seem to be mirroring each other, do you think that we'll have our babies on the same day as well?! The girls are really excited and really supportive, I've been so lucky that they are willing to help. How are you getting on with raspberry leaf tea? I bought capsules but wasn't sure how many to take or whether they might make a third labout too quick. I could do with some advice if you can help?

Unbuffy you beat me to it with Europe! Blush

LOL Louise hope there's some baby action soon

Banana thinking of you and hoping you get good news.

Sam sorry you're feeling miserable. if it helps I am a first time mum and not sure I fit in antenatal group either! But then most of my friends are older than me, a couple my age (28) I find are still wanting to be students...?!?

Ivy, me too zzzzzzzzzzz Glad baby is active but I miss sleep....

Right, off to tidy a bit before DH gets home and we go out for his birthday.
Roll on half term!

Love to all x

Unbuffy · 05/10/2010 17:51

Sparkly that is exactly the same with me when I was pg with dd. I was suprised about the fact I actually lost some freinds over it - but have made some new ones since with baby groups etc. Would reccommend these far more than antenatals!

Hopefully · 05/10/2010 19:25

Will probably fail to name check everyone I'm intending to, but...

Sam sorry you're feeling blue. FWIW even though most of the women I met through NCT seemed very different to me at first, and it took me a long to time be on more than polite hellos with them, two years down the line we all meet up regularly, in a couple of little groups of twos and threes, and I feel really close to some of them. I'm the only SAHM, bar one other friend, and I'm sure I'm the only one who actually does her own laundry/cleaning/bread baking/yoghurt making/lentil weaving, but I don't feel aware of being 'different' any more. Luckily at least one other of my friends is having DC2 just before me, and I know a couple of others are trying/early stages of PG, so I'm hoping we'll all stick together.

Sleeeeep we didn't get any last night. DS has done something to his leg (he won't walk, think he's sprained an ankle or something, doc is unconcerned) and has a stinking cold, so was in our bed last night, and he is such a wriggler. Combined with DP's snoring I don't think I got 2 hours all night [yawn].

LouiseH I tried the whole pineapple technique. The acid made my tongue absolutely agony, and I didn't go into labour for another week. Apparently you'd need to eat about 8 to get high enough levels of whatever chemical is in them.

Zayja I sell my haberdashery stuff here and when I do handmade stuff, it's here. I haven't got much in that store at the moment, but I'm just having a major quilt making session. I blog about what I'm making here.

Positive news from CAB employment expert and solicitor today about DP's job - both think his employer has behaved appallingly, and he stands a really good chance of either his job back or a payoff, whatever he wants really.

Sam - hope youre feeling a bit better tonight.

I'm taking the raspberry leaf capsules from holland & Barratt, my friend recommended them from 32 wks but I didn't start them till this week. I've never taken them before and have started on 3 a day, I will up it to six a day for the last week.
They definitely make Braxton Hicks stronger, so I'm guessing they do something!
My first labours were 15 hrs & 7 hrs respectively so in theory this one should be quicker, except this baby is very firmly back to back, which apparently slows things down a lot, and I'm also wondering if after a gap of ten years, my body will think it's having a first baby again!

As Unbuffy says regarding antenatals, I met one really good friend through them first time round - her baby was born the same day, but she moved away quite quickly afterwards.
I made more friends afterwards, through the library or swimming etc. It just seems a bit daunting at the moment to think of making that first step on my own.

My two are really hoping for a Halloween baby so they can take it trick or treating in the pram, they think people will give them more sweets that way, hee hee Smile

Let me know how youre feeling tomorrow xx

tigerbear · 05/10/2010 23:27

Hi everyone,
Meita - thanks so much for the welcome back! And huge congratulations on the birth of Ianto!! Fab name btw! Reading your post has made me a bit teary - can't believe it's been a year since we were on the mc thread.

Banana - hold on, hope everything works out ok for you.

Still not feeling pregnant at all, apart from having to get up a few times in the night for a wee!

thefatladyscreams · 05/10/2010 23:48

Hi guys - sorry to not post for so long (very guilty face!) but the good news is our little boy was born last Thursday. Keep meaning to post every day but don't understand where the time is going

All went well. I had a relatively quick labour (10 hours) which I though was an eternity but was apparently good for a first labour and our little one arrived 31 minutes after we checked in at the hospital. I had been trying to stay at home for as long as possible - found out I was fully dilated when we arrived at hospital (so no gas and air allowed which I'd been holding out for!). Was so glad we didn't leave it any longer (was thinking of Boodle in her driveway!).

Came home the same evening. Only problem is feeding (expressing is working fine but having problems getting him to latch). Will catch up properly soon and get all your news.

Good luck to Louisesh and SamB - enjoy the last few peaceful days!

thefatladyscreams · 05/10/2010 23:49

Damn - just realised I've missed Lee's update- huge congratuations and welcome to the world little Andrew! Grin

Congratulations thefatlady, how lovely. And yes, more details please!

PenguinsMummy · 06/10/2010 08:30

Many congrats TFLS - that's great news. And best of luck Louise!

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today - am 11 weeks and this is where it all started to go wrong last time - I MC at 11+2. I just need to get to Tuesday and have my scan and see that everything is ok. Positive thinking - it will be ok, it will be ok, it will be ok!!!

Gi1da · 06/10/2010 08:35

Wonderful, wonderful news TFLS huge congratulations! Smile

Waves so hard fingers get tingly at lovely Jolls

Banana really hoping things work out for you. Will have extremities crossed for you tomorrow.

Sorry you're feeling blue Sam hope you feel brighter today. I'll be a first time mum, not doing any antenatals and not sure what on earth life will be like after baba here. Just going to see how it goes. Bit scary though since have worked in same place for 16 years and though I want to spend a year at home not sure how lonely I will feel. A friend (from work) who is fairly local is about to have DS2 and am hoping to keep in touch with y'all for advice! Everybody else I know will be at work. Will stalk other mums in Greenwich park for company if need be. There seem to be lots about!

Hopefully gosh, beautiful stuff. I doff my hat to you on the work/life balance.

Welcome Tigerbear Smile

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 06/10/2010 08:38

Yay TFLS congratulations!
My midwife told me when DS was born that BF is something you're both new to and both need to learn, so you don't need to worry. Just don't be afraid to ask for help. (Feel free to PM me if you need anything!:)

I have a feeling today is going to be a good day. Got my first load of maternity clothes through this morning and actually look pregnant in them, and getting a new laptop delivered later, so the craptop can finally retire. YAY!

Gi1da · 06/10/2010 08:41

Oh and waves to Meita too!

Hang in there Penguin Deep breath, positive thinking and a hearty > Smile

AlbaDeTamble · 06/10/2010 08:51

Huge congrats TFLS! good luck with the bf, hope you have some good helpful advice. I had no end of difficulties feeding DS so I feel for you.

Malteser ouch! Hope you're feeling a lot better now

banana very best of luck for tomorrow's scan

get well soon to all coughs colds and flu...

Sorry bit slack on posting... rather tired. Must try to find first aid rooms and take lunchtime nap...

Sarahlou8 · 06/10/2010 09:23

TFLS Congratulations! That's lovely news to wake up to. I had a few teething problems getting DD1 to latch on properly, her latch was so poor she made me bleed on the first day and I almost gave up. My midwife advised me to try the Rugby hold to alter her position and thankfully it worked a treat and I fed her for 8 months after that, so hang in there, it's still early days. Not all babies do it instinctively, they have to learn just like we do!
All the best xx

Unbuffy · 06/10/2010 09:24

Morning all

Fab news TFLS, sounds like a good labour to me (ie, the less time spent in hospital the better!!) and congratulations! I agree with Ivy, breastfeeding is HARD WORK and you're both having to learn as you go along. Just plug away at it (no pun intended!) and don't be afraid to say OUCH/use Lansinoh (Stuff of the Gods, fantastic)/resort to nipple shields for cracking and pain for a while. It was hell on toast bf dd for about 6-8 weeks, and after that a breeze (apart from the fact she never stopped eating!!) Give it time.

Have a mw appointment in about half an hour (what's the betting she's running 45 minutes late, they always are), expect to be told baba is breech as it's been doing mad somersaults and will doubtless get very teary about it. There's still time though. Doesn't help that dh is in a foul mood this morning. Why are some days just like that? Oh, and cold has typically gone to my chest AGAIN. Roll on chest infection...

Hi to everyone, special squeezes to Jolls
