I did a pregnancy test on Tuesday, which showed as positive. My period was 8 days late at that point.
However, on the Monday before I'd tested, I'd had some bloody discharge, quite dark in colour. I have had bloody discharge / spotting since then, so six days in total.
I had contacted the health centre to inform them of the pregnancy and put myself on the list for the midwife, my letter arrived today and my appointment is 21st October.
DH rang the EPU for me given we were concerned about the spotting, they calculated me at five weeks (most weekly calculator things put me at seven weeks today). They said that I was too soon to scan to check, and that I should not be too concerned re the bleeding, and that I should go to A&E if I have any pain in my sides.
I have a sneaky suspicion that I will go crazy if I have to wait to talk to somebody until the 21st Oct, esp as it will probably be another few weeks after that before I'd get a scan on the NHS.
Please give me some advice, I am going crazy. I just wish I knew whether everything was okay. The spotting is driving me crazy, everytime I think its stopped, the next time I go to the loo its there again.
The EPU had also told DH to tell me to re-test at 5 day intervals, I tested today and the test result was positive within 10 seconds. Is that a good sign? Or does it mean nothing, because my hormones would still make the test positive, even if something had happened?
This is my second pregnant, I did bleed with my first child, but when I was about 11 weeks, it terrified me, and they made me wait a week to be scanned, I dont think I can take the suspense until October.

Maybe tell a wee white lie and phone the epu and say you have some pain? Maybe they'll scan you?
Sorry you're going through thid. Take care x

sarahscot · 18/09/2010 20:44

this,not thid, sorry

bessie26 · 18/09/2010 21:19

I second sarah - lie & say you have had some pain. (I am currently pg after 2 MC & my GP told me to do this is if I wanted an early scan!)

Try not to stress out in the meantime, a friend of mine said she had "horrendous" bleeding early on & carried to full term.

MoonFaceMama · 18/09/2010 21:27

hi heart, sorry you are going through this it sounds crap.

You could play up the symptoms as suggested above if that's some thing you felt like doing. I know from experience that in the case of suspected mc at this stage they don't scan. This is sadly because if an mc is happening there is nothing that can be done to help. SadSo i guess the scan results would not do much, although obv they might put your mind at rest

sorry, phone went crazy. Will finish post now...

MoonFaceMama · 18/09/2010 21:39

was going to say that as you know it is far from unknown for women to bleed during pg. My mum bled throughout her pg with me. It may not come as much reassurance but my mc would have started, become clear and peaked within the time you describe iyswim.

Apparently there is no need to rest if you are worried about mc Hmm but i doubt you feel very much like doing anything so try and be kind to yourself. Smile

I really hope it all works out for you.

Have just seen bessie's post so maybe they will scan. Or is that cause you have a history of mc bessie? Hope your pg goes well btw. Smile

I would say/do what you need to in order to have an early scan to make sure - but it may be nothing to worry about.

I found out I was pg at around 5wks but at 6wks I was bleeding with lots of pain....they told me to wait for the miscarriage to happen but my cervix was still closed so there was hope.

Im now 18wks and all is fine - I think the bleeding I had was breakthrough bleeding, which happens to a lot of women. So try to keep positive until you know for sure!

Best of luck to you - let us know how you get on xxx

what about paying for a private scan to put your mind at ease?
Wishing you good luck!

TO UPDATE THIS THREAD, CUT FROM MY ANTENATAL THREAD:

Well, I had a private scan today, I was really nervy. She did my scan, and although she complimented my on my full bladder, the position of my bladder / womb wasn't right and she was not going to be able to see anything properly on the normal scan. So, off I went to the loo, and then back in for an internal scan (joy).
She did the internal scan, and saw the sac and the baby, and... the heartbeat :)
She couldn't see any reason for the bleeding, kept saying reassuring things and showing us the heartbeat again. Baby is teeny, she measured me at 6 plus 2 which is what I thought I was based on LMP and my cycle length. She scanned my tubes and both ovaries, and said that they looked healthy and fine (and, also said that my right ovary should get all the kudos for this pregnancy, how the hell does she know?!).
So, now waiting for my booking in appointment with the midwife, and hoping that it doesn't take too long to get the nhs scan, the midwife appointment will be when I'm over 10 weeks, hoping it will be less than two weeks for them to arrange my scan.
Feeling very relieved, though I dont think I'll be entirely satisfied until I'm holding a pink, "cooked", screaming, looking fairly disgruntled baby in my arms!
