I've been spotting for 3 days now and am currently on holiday without access to any of my usual GP/midwife services. Having been to the hospital for a scan yesterday the baby's heartbeat was detected and my cervix is closed. All looks well but the midwife couldn't tell me why I'm bleeding. I've come away with progesterone tablets. Has anyone else been spotting during pregnancy and it's all been fine? It was bright red for the first day, brown and clotted yesterday and a bit of a mixture today :( Thanks for any advice/help you can give.

Hi Lorna
I am going through this now. I am 13 +5 weeks and have been spotting now for about 9 days. I've been for one scan this week(a pre booked dating scan) which showed a very active baby and no sign of blood and after a red bleed yesterday I'm booked in for another scan on weds.
I completely freaked out before my scan this week but having had a chat with my gp am feeling much better. He seems to think it could be a bit of erosion on the cervix which can be quite common during pregnancy and he seemed to think the fact that the baby looked good on scan was positive.
I also have now remebered that the same thing happened during my last pregnancy (ds now 6).
My gp said the main thing to be aware of was pain and 'using more than one pad an hour' (sorry if tmi). He told me I should then go to nearest hospital.
I know all situations are different, and I will be thinking of you!
jx

That's encouraging. Thanks for replying so quickly. Is your cervix closed and everything looking normal? My report was in Spanish so I had to google translate everything when I got back and it all looked encouraging. And yet...between the 4 of the spanish midwives they couldn't find the words to tell me why I was bleeding and it doesn't say on my report. Bit confusing really.

I had this wth DS, no idea why and it was very distressing but all was fine with me. I had a couple of emergancy scans and then it just stopped, the hospital thought that maybe I had experienced a cervical erosion.

I had a massive red bleed at 12 weeks am now 32 weeks, I had another bleed at 16 and 25 weeks no reason why but everything seems to be fine

had a bright red bleed with DS, now 2, at 14 weeks. There was SO much blood I couldn't see any way that I wasn't MC. But when I got to A&E, was scanned, and baby fine, and cervix closed. I continued to spot for a couple of days and all went on to be fine. I hope all turns out the same for you.

I spotted every few weeks right through dd2's pregnancy and was told everytimey cervix was closed and there was nothing wrong, still worrying though. Dd2 now a healthy 22 month old, hope everything is ok :)

I had bleeding at 28 weeks with DS1. I got kept in hospital overnight for observation and sent for a scan, but everything was fine and there was no expanation for it either. He is now a strapping 5 year old

Hop everything goes well for you x

Hi, sounds to me like they checked you out thoroughly and it looks positive - if there was a clear explanation they'd have told you.

I am 13 weeks and have had bleeding for a few weeks but they've spotted something called a subchorionic haematoma - basically a bleed behind the placenta. I basically have to go on bed rest to see if it reabsorbs. Pretty scarey but the reason I posted is obviously not to panick you but to say it is really obvious on the scans I've had. I'm sure if there was something to concern them they would have spotted it and said.
I've had bleeding in pregnancies before and it's been the same as you, no signs to indicate concern so just one of those things.
Good luck and maybe when you're back from holiday just ask for a scan at your early pregnancy unit to reassure you?

I bled in both my pregnancies. With ds1, it was a couple of times around 12 weeks (not heavy). With ds2 I had several heavy bleeds at about 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 26 weeks. The ones at 12 weeks were with large clots, drenched clothes and soaked sanitary pads through in seconds. DS2 is now 2.4 years old. They never did find out why I bled (just told, some people do) apart from having cervical ectropion (?), which may have been the reason. I was given steroids at 26 weeks with ds2 in case of early labour (to help mature the lungs), things were fine.

Bleeding in pregnancy is scary, but the news is not always bad. I hope it goes well for you.

Hiya, bleeding through pregnancy is very common but yet very scary, at the beginning of each of my pregnancys i bleed but it was fine, with my second at 17+3 i lost a large amount of blood they reckon it was a pint easily, yet when i was scan baby was fine and no sign of blood. Always get checked out wwhen bleeding but never worry yourself to much as stress can make it worse

Thank you so much for all your help and advice. It's really nice to know others out there have been through the same thing. I've put myself on a very lazy programme of lounging around in the hope that it helps somehow. Will def book in for an appt when I return to have it all clarified. fingers crossed it's all ok until then I guess!

Hi Lorna, I bled at 6wks, 13wks, and 17wks, I think she was moving so much she dislodged slightly from me internally. It is very commen and not always fatal - stay positive and rest loads. My DD is now a 6 yr old and it all seems a distant memory but stories like yours do make me want to share what i went through and for you to know it all ended happily.

My thoughts are with you at this traumatic time x
