Old wives tales - any truth to them?

I was told i was having a girl at my 20wk scan but nearly everyone seems to think it's a boy as the bump is neat and i'm carrying all at the front...
is this an old wives tale or any truth to it?
are there any other tell tale signs of what the sex is? I can't stop my mum going mad buying pink things lol

The old wives' tales are just that. No truth to any of them.

The scans are fairly accurate though.

I have had 2 neat all at the front bumps (dd1&dc3) and one fat all over (dd2) so I don't agree with the bump tale!

with ds i was massive all over, bump, bum face. everywhere.

dd1 and soon to be dd2 i have small neat bump and no weight gain anywhere else (thank god)

i would trust the scan tbh.

I was going to start a thread like this! Not that I know the sex, but everyone is convinced its a boy as they say I'm all up front. Although I'm not bothered either way, irrationally I now want it to be a girl so I can prove them all wrong!!

lol I was/am the complete opposite to you mumatron. With dd, I was all over and now with ds (28/29wks) I have a neat, v low bump.

I had a neat bump at the front. You couldn't tell from behind that I was pregnant, and I had a girl. So that disproves that old wives tale. I disproved another one by not suffering from any heartburn at all and having a baby with lots of hair.

As to whether this is going to be a boy or girl, everyone has a different opinion. My MIL doused me with a needle and thread and says she knows the sex. I'm very neat and carrying up front so we'll see but I personally think any superstition is rubbish.

I had a big, sprawling bump each time and have 2 DSs. Friend had neat, football-up-jumper bump and had a girl. So, load of old cobblers, I reckon .

Old wives tales. Had plenty of comments either way when I was PG along the lines of, 'You're carrying high, it's definitely a boy/girl.' Half of them were wrong.

I've got a pretty neat up-front kind of bump and I've had 3 scans at 16+3, 23+4 and 35+0 which all showed that it's a girl. I'm 39+1 now so won't know for definite for a few days but I'm more convinced by looking at the scans than looking at my belly!

I went the other way bunbaker. I had horrendous heartburn and a bald baby!
