Is anyone else in early pregnancy on pins, just waiting for hyperemesis to strike?

I'm nearly 5 weeks with dc2, so obviously very early days.

With DD I had hyperemesis until I was about 25 weeks, was in hospital on drips/medication and lost about 2 stone. And I'm really terrified of going through it again tbh. I'm on pins with this pregnancy just waiting for it all to start back up again.

Are there any other ladies out there that have managed to escape HG second time around. Or others who are early on with DC2 after having HG with their DC1?

I'm not that early on now, but this is DC4 for me, and have had hyperemesis with every pregnancy. This time, I knew it was coming, it started at 6+3. With my first pg, with DD, I had hg from weeks 16-28. With DS1 I was the worst, it kicked in at 4 weeks 2 days, and I spent 19 weeks out of 40 in hospital on a drip for dehydration. It was bad with DS2, but not as bad (might have been better meds though), only went into hospital twice. Don't put off going to the GP to ask for meds this time if it starts again.

I'm currently 22+6, and touch wood, the HG hasn't been quite as bad. It started at 6+3, I've been on metaclopramide 3 times a day since 12 weeks, but (fingers crossed it continues) for the last week, I have managed to only take a total of 3 tablets all week. Just, seriously, there are lots of different meds out there, and one will be right for you, don't suffer this time, insist on meds from the GP.

With dc1 I had hyperemesis from weeks 7-42 and it was horrendous. With dc2 (still pregnant, 41 wk) I had sickness but NOTHING like as bad, usually once in the morning and once after dinner, manageable).

Good luck x

I had HG with DC1 from 5wks to labour. I'm nearing 10wks with DC2 and whilst I have been sick again I think I'm coping a little better. The anticipation of it happening was awful and I really feel for you.

A few things have made this time round a little easier: First pregnancy it took months to find a medication that worked so many trips in and out of hospital. This time I knew more about the condition and demanded medication early on. I knew what worked from last time, and was prescribed it from 6wks. This has kept me out of hospital so far. I've also been having acupuncture, which isn't a miracle cure but I think it is helping overall. Also I think this time round I kind of know what to expect so it's a little less scary and I'm not as harsh on myself as I was last time. I felt like it was all my fault and that I was just crap at dealing with pregnancy.

I really hope you don't experience HG again, but if you do, or you're worried about it, there is a lovely thread here to talk all things HG with sufferers past and present.

Congratulations and I really hope you don't suffer this time Smile

Just found out I'm pregnant this morning with DC2. Had HG from 6-14ish weeks with DC1 and although wasn't hospitalised, was off work for 3 weeks. Really scared it'll happen again now I have a toddler to look after, a sick mother living with us and finances are shit.

Thanks for your kind replies.

Congrats takingtheplunge! I think you gave me advice about 2 weeks ago in the conception topic when I was in two minds about having dc2, bit late now! I hope it all goes well for you, sounds like you have a lot going on.

caramel thanks for the link that's very helpful, I didn't realise there was a thread for hg sufferers, am hoping that won't be my favourite place on here in the next few weeks! I had cyclizine last time which took the edge off, although I still found food hard to be around. I didn't have it until labour like you, that must have been hard. Here's hoping it goes quicker this time for you.

Theunmentioned- it's good to hear others have escaped second time around.

Loudlass- 4 times!! You must be one brave lady Wink. If it starts cranking up in the next few weeks I'm going straight to my gp for medication. Last time I didn't know what the hell was happening to me, so ended Up in a&e. Just for nosiness, did you find it worse with your girls. When I was in hospital, a doctor told me about 90% of women admitted for HG are either carrying girls or multiples.

Many thanks again.
